Winter Weather Alert

The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Winter Storm Warning for significant snowfall for all of the Chicago area. The warning is in effect from 9:00 p.m. tonight through 4:00 a.m. Wednesday morning. The text of the most recent NWS Winter Storm Warning is included for your reference at the bottom of this message.

This storm is expected to bring snow to the Lake County area later this evening, with the most intense snowfall rates forecast during the afternoon and evening Tuesday. Snow accumulation of up to twelve inches or more is expected across Lake County, with locally higher amounts possible, particularly closer to Lake Michigan. As this storm system intensifies, strong gusty winds will likely complicate snow removal and make conditions outside more unpleasant. Winds of greater than 20 mph are probable Tuesday evening, with gusts of 35 mph or more possible.

The expected long duration of snowfall, forecast winds, and likelihood for more than ten inches of snow will lead to some travel impacts on Tuesday and Wednesday. Pay attention to future weather updates from your local media and weather information sources, such as the NWS webpage at http://www.crh.noaa.gov/lot/, and use caution during the storm. Plan accordingly for potential travel impacts by allowing extra time for trips and making sure you have suitable winter clothing in case you must spend more time outside than you expect.

Route 176 and Fairfield Road Public Hearing

The Lake County Division of Transportation invites you to attend an Open House Public Information Meeting concerning the preliminary engineering study for the Fairfield Road/IL Route 176 Junction Improvement in unincorporated central Lake County.  The purpose of the meeting is to present the proposed improvement alternates, the project schedule, and seek public input and comments regarding the project.  If you live nearby or travel that area please mark your calendar for:

Date:  Thursday, February 25, 2010
Time:  6:00 pm to 8:00 pm

Place:  Wauconda Community High School
555 N. Main Street
Wauconda, IL
The meeting will be conducted in an informal, open house format.  The Lake County Division of Transportation and consultant representatives will be present to discuss the project and answer any questions.

If you have any questions or need additional information, please contact Chuck Gleason at (847) 377-7447 or cgleason@lakecountyil.gov.

Please forward this information to anyone who you think may be interested in attending.

The public meeting will show 3 different improvements for this intersection and ask for public input. (A typical intersection improvement, a round a bout and a grade separation).

This  intersection is currently rated as an F. This location was identified as a consensus project in 2005 at the Lake County Transportation Summit. There have been no decisions on what the improvement will be but this is the time for the public to provide input on each of the alternatives. The Lake County Division of Transportation is in the preliminary phases, first going to public comment.

With any improvement at this location, the tunnel that the County built will be incorporated into the project.
Lake County Going Green

I have included this video for you so that you are able to see what is going on in Lake County government.  It is about eight minutes long, but I think you will find it informative.

Dog Exercise Areas Extended at Forest Preserve

DogLeashDogs owners are reminded that hours at Lake County Forest Preserve District dog exercise areas have been extended to 6 p.m. or sunset, whichever is later. The areas open at 6:30 a.m.

Dog exercise areas are located at: Independence Grove (entrance off Milwaukee Avenue) near Libertyville; Lakewood near Wauconda; Prairie Wolf near Lake Forest; and, Duck Farm near Lindenhurst. Permits are required. The annual permit allows access to all four sites, and daily permits can be purchased at a self-pay station at each area. They are available at lcfpd.org, by calling (847) 367-6640, or at the general office, 2000 Milwaukee Ave., Libertyville or at the operations office at Lakewood Forest Preserve, 24237 W. Ivanhoe Road, Wauconda. The annual permit fee for one dog is $44 for Lake County residents.
Prescription Drug Card

A gentleman from Mundelein wrote us saying "the pharmacist at the Walgreen's practically begged me to get the RX card to help with a drug that is not covered by our insurance.  I always mistakenly thought it was tied to income and she told me, no that is not true.  I got  21% off the retail price of the drug!"

County residents can take advantage of a prescription drug discount card program.  The free card that is accepted at most pharmacies offers average savings of 20 percent off the retail price of commonly prescribed drugs.  This is intended for people without prescription coverage or on medicines not covered by your plan.  The card may also be used where accepted to fill prescriptions for pets.  To receive a card, click here.
