Greetings!
What a great first week! They may not always want to admit it, but I saw lots & lots of kids that looked very happy to be here. What a treat! I heard stories of massive Lego construction projects and Dr. Who's Tardis. I was brought into a debate about the possibilities of time travel, the joys of pepperoni vs. cheese pizza, and was able to eavesdrop on the always entertaining white vs. chocolate milk debate. Many students and parents have already commented to me about how CVA has been a great benefit to their families, and in some cases even a huge relief from the constraints of a larger, less flexible school. It's time to capture some of these stories so we can tell people just how special this school is, so I have a request. Please tell us why you chose CVA or how your student(s) have found success here. We'll collect these testimonials and may even use them in our brochures, on our website or otherwise. Please send me an email (dglick@cybervillageacademy.org) with the subject "Testimonial." Tell me why you're here, what the school means to you, or even just a particular success story. Be sure to tell us if we can use your name or your initials in our marketing. I look forward to seeing what you share! Thanks very much! |

WELCOME NEW STAFF
Hello, I am Kelly Mann, the new science teacher! I am very excited about being a part of CVA. I graduated from Mankato State in December of 2011 with a degree in Elementary Education and Middle School Science. I grew up in Burnsville and started taking college courses at Normandale Community College part time my junior year and full time my senior year of high school. Needless to say, I love learning. If you ever wish to contact me, I am just a phone call or e-mail away!
Also, welcome to Cassie Hatfield, our new paraprofessional working to help support students with special needs!

CVA on Facebook
There's a CVA group on Facebook! Let's try to get the WHOLE CVA community to join! That means all current and former students, everyone who's ever taught at CVA, parents of current and former students, and anyone else who is part of our extended family. Let's make it a place where everyone can stay connected.

MYP @ CVA
In the first issue of News from the Village , we looked at one requirement of the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Program: schools must provide 8 subjects for each year of the program (grades 6-8 at CVA). These are Arts, Humanities, Language A (English), Language B (Spanish), Mathematics, Physical Education, Sciences, and Technology. MYP teachers are working on charting their MYP units by trimester for each subject. Watch for these soon on the CVA Website. Please keep in mind that these are works in progress and that teachers who have been at CVA longer will have developed more units than newer teachers. Newer teachers will be tweaking units and charts they have inherited. When you walk into classrooms, look for signs by the doors that tell you when an MYP unit is in progress and find unit questions posted in the classroom. Talk to your children about what they are investigating and discovering in their classes and talk to teachers when you have questions or comments. For more information about IB or MYP, go to http://www.ibo.org or contact Cherie Neima at cneima@cybervillageacademy.org.

Washington D.C. Trip
CVA is heading to Washington DC!
This is an optional field trip that is scheduled for April 24th - 27th, 2013! This trip is open to students enrolled in grades 7, 8 and 9 at CVA. Click here to find out about scholarships and payment options.
September 15th is the FINAL deadline for this trip - if there are fewer than 10 signed up for the trip on the 15th, the trip will be cancelled.
CVA students have received the honor of placing a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknowns at Arlington National Cemetery.
Arlington National Cemetery is one of our most sacred shrines honoring our nations' Veterans and their families who have sacrificed their lives for our freedom while serving in past and present conflicts. This ceremony will take place on April 25th with four of our students being the official wreath party. We are very honored to be a part of this event.
Please email Robyn with questions about Washington D.C. 2013!
