Greetings!
Preparations for the school year are in full swing! Orientations for new Fusion and PASCAL students were held this week, teachers have been at school working on their rooms, Gerry is getting the computers ready and Melissa is working on enrollment forms and scheduling, and a million other things. Next week, all teachers will be here in workshops and doing final preparations for the start of school. On Tuesday evening at 6:30, we'll have our annual Open House/Back-to-School Night. I'll do a short introduction of myself and the year ahead, and then everyone will have a chance to reconnect with teachers and friends. Also on Tuesday - at 4:30 - we'll have our first school board meeting of the year. These meetings are always open to the public, and we invite you to come and learn more about the issues the school board discusses. This month will include a report by our financial auditing firm and a discussion of our latest data on student achievement. If you haven't already, please turn in your enrollment forms and other paperwork. That will help us ensure everything is in place for the start of the year. Enjoy your last week of summer vacation! |
After School Program
CVA is exploring the possibility of offering a fee-based after-school program where students could work on homework or other quiet activities. For the convenience of families, this program would go until 5:30 pm, supervised by an adult. We are considering both 5-day/week and 3-day/week options at $400/trimester and $250/trimester. If you are interested, please complete the brief survey at http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/CVA-PM before September 4.

Drop off & Pick up
While we try to make things convenient, our highest priority is student safety. Here are the procedures we have worked out for your children's safety. Please follow the guidelines here as you drop off and pick up your students. Be aware that Talmud Torah students are dropped off between 7:50 and 8:15am and picked up beginning at 3:15pm.
- Morning drop off is between 8:10 and 8:25am at the North Doors (facing the parking lot). Later than 8:25 will cause your student to be late to his/her first class. (If he/she is late, he/she must get a tardy pass at the front desk). If you must drop off your student before 8:10am please make arrangements with a teacher for them to wait with. Halls are not monitored before 8:10am.
- Please avoid making a left turn into the parking lot when there is opposing traffic and others are behind you.
- If you need to park and come on campus yourself, please accompany your student across the parking lot. Do NOT allow them to cross the parking lot through traffic on their own please. The easiest solution is to park on the south side of the lot (facing the school).
- Please pull as far forward as you can when dropping off your child in the parking lot so that 3 or more cars can discharge their students at the same time. (likewise for pickup in the afternoon)
- If you choose to drop off (or pick up) your student on Hamline or W. Pinehurst, make sure that they do NOT cross the parking lot or traffic circle. Students must walk around the lot on the playground side or use the sidewalk to reach Hamline. Students may not leave through the doors on Hamline. At pick up time, please have your student check in with the dismissal teacher to let them know that they have seen your car if you are not using the parking lot for pick up.
- Pick up begins at 3:35pm. Students gather at the top of the stairs with the dismissal teacher after 3:30 and walk down together to the doors.
- Students may not use the playground after school because we don't have enough staff to monitor it for their safety. If you would like your child to have some play time before getting in your car, we will dismiss your students (and their carpool if appropriate) to you in person only.
- Students are expected to stay in the entry area and pay attention to the procedure so that they can hear their names when we call them to load. Appropriate school behavior is expected at all times. If your student is not available when your car reaches the head of the line we may ask you to make another loop in order to keep the line moving.
- Students riding bikes, walking or using public transportation need to have a written note on file so that teachers can allow them to leave the property without a parent or guardian. We may ask bike riders to wait a few minutes until the traffic thins a bit for their safety.
- If you have any questions or need to make special arrangements, please contact Melissa via email or at 651-523-7170 ext 200.
Let's have a safe and successful year!

Hello from our new Special Education teacher Greetings! My name is Jane Hall-Dayle. I am joining Elizabeth Knoll and Karla Gotham to work with students receiving Title I services and also teach special education. I have taught special education for about five years. I have taught all grades and I have worked with students with a variety of disabilities. Before I became a teacher I worked as a nurse and also as a lawyer. I changed careers to teaching because I loved volunteering in my children's classrooms. I decided that I should do what I love! I am excited to get involved in the Cyber Village Academy community and I look forward to a great 2012-2013 school year and to meeting all of you!

New Lunch Catering
This school year, CVA is going to be doing lunch orders on Mondays and Tuesdays in a different way. We will be working with the Shalom Home kitchens to offer an amazing hot lunch on Mondays and Tuesdays!
Rather than offering deli sandwiches that are ordered each morning, students will now receive the hot lunch menu and order form each month and can sign up for which days they would like to have a lunch delivered. Lunch orders will be collected at the front desk each month, and lunches will be delivered to the school each Monday and Tuesday for the students who ordered a lunch for that day. Hot lunches cost $4.25 each. Please see the attached September lunch menu and order form. September lunch orders will be due back to the school by September 5th.
All Monday and Tuesday hot lunches must be pre-ordered and pre-paid! Please do not send money with your child in the morning to purchase a lunch for that same day.
Pizza Wednesdays will continue offering cheese and pepperoni pizza for $3 per slice or 2 slices for $5. However, students are requested to pay in advance into a lunch account using the attached order form rather than bring cash each week.
Milk is also available daily at a cost of $0.05 to students or free to qualifying families. Students can sign up for milk in advance, or purchase it daily.

Registration Paperwork Reminder
Hello CVA Families! School is fast approaching and it is time to complete registration for the fall. Everyone should have received a packet of registration forms from the office. If you have not already done so, please take a moment to complete these forms and mail them back in to CVA. You can also fax them in to 651-523-7113. Please return these as soon as possible to help make the start of the school year much smoother. A big thank you to everyone who has already submitted their registration paperwork! If you need new copies of the registration forms they can be emailed to you if you prefer, or are attached here in the left hand column at the bottom and on the website. If your plans have changed for the fall and you will be attending a different school, please e-mail Melissa or call her at 651-523-7170 ext. 200. Thank you!

Returning Family Paperwork
In order to keep our information up to date we ask returning families to fill out an Info Update Form. If you have not yet done this, please do so as soon as possible, even if just to say, "all information has remained the same." Click here to download and print the form and return it to Melissa in the front office. |
Picture Day
Picture Day will be on Monday, October 1st this year. Your student will receive a sign up form in his/her school mailbox soon after school starts for the year. If you do not plan to buy a set of pictures please have your student get his/her picture taken anyway, as these pictures are the ones we use for the yearbook.

CVA SOCCER
The school year is fast approaching and that also means the 3rd season of CVA Soccer! Here is some important information you will need to know.
- Registration: Please print and fill out the attached registration form and turn it in to the office. This form is also on the website under FAQ -- sports.
- Cost: The fee for 5th/6th (4th graders are welcome, but they need to understand they will be playing against older and bigger players) is $60. The fee for 7th/8th graders is $70. Please pay Melissa by Wednesday, September 5th (Checks Payable to: CVA)
- Jerseys: We will wear the same jerseys as last year, so returning players don't need to get a new one unless they want to. We will be placing the order on Wednesday, September 5th.
- Practices: Practices will be on Tuesdays after school for both teams from 3:45 pm - 5:15 pm. The first practice will be September 11th.
- Games:
- 5th/6th: Play on Wednesdays with all but maybe 1 game played at CVA. (Game times usually around 4:30 pm with the 2nd game at 5:30 pm if we play a double header)
- 7th/8th: Play on Fridays at either McMurray Fields or Ft. Snelling. Games start between 4:00 pm and 5:00 pm usually. Some make-up games may be played on Mondays. Each team will play 8 or 9 games. Some players may be asked to play on both teams occasionally depending on numbers.
- The first games will be September 12th for 5th/6th and September 14th for 7th/8th.
- Equipment Needed: All players will need soccer cleats, shin guards, shorts, and long socks (they must cover the shin guards all the way). Please be aware that we do have some extra cleats, socks and shin-guards to use during the season, but not many. Please contact Mr. Orr if you are interested. If you wear glasses, you will need a strap to hold them on if you plan to wear them.
- Coaches: We need a volunteer coach for both teams or 2 per team. Please note we are more than welcome to the idea of Co-Head Coaches or Tri-Head Coaches. We just need people to oversee the practices and games. On that note, also know that Mr. Orr will take care of all the logistical work. If you have any questions about this or know of anyone please pass this information along and contact Mr. Orr ASAP at corr@cybervillageacademy.org .
NO COACHES = NO TEAM!
Thanks! We are all looking forward to another successful soccer season at CVA! If you have any questions please contact Mr. Orr. |
