Greetings!
It has been a great honor for me to serve as school director these past five years. I'd like to share with you a five year perspective on CVA strengths. CVA has grown and developed significant strengths due to the hard work and sacrifice of the teachers and staff who work here: - Financial strength: five years ago CVA was in debt by $180,000. Now CVA has a positive fund balance of $86,000 and enrollment is growing steadily, a mark of future financial health.
- Programming strength:
- CVA is the only charter school in MN with a fully authorized International Baccalaureate "Middle Years Programme."
- A great start has been made with the new Post-Secondary Enrollment Options-oriented "high school to college" program just as the state is doing more to encourage high school students not just to be prepared for college but to be in college.
- Organizational strength:
- The physical facility, building and grounds offer much improved functionality especially in the Science Lab, Gym, Library, Playground and Sports Field.
- CVA's Charter has been approved for five years by Innovative Quality Schools, a Single Purpose Authorizer organization with its focus expressed in its name.
- The CVA board of directors have all undergone state level training for their responsibilities and continue to lead from a base of knowledge.
CVA has a strong foundation on which to build the next five years - great things are ahead! I will continue to work for the school as director until the end of June, and on July 2 David Glick will begin his formal duties. He has already begun working with our great faculty and staff in planning at our staff retreat.

International Days A Success
Our many activities were a great success thanks to some great teamwork on behalf of parents, staff and students! From Bread making to kite making, games, songs and dance, videos and discussions, students were able to make connections and deepen their understanding of people around the world. Thank you to Rob Rand, Jennifer Naglak and Lauren Odle for their planning for the events. Special thanks to parents Rishma Adam (who makes fabulous Chapati.... click here for that recipe) and Bob and Laurie Iwan who helped with subbing and testing on Monday. They brought their strengths to the week and helped us all. Thanks to those of you who loaned griddles and rolling pins. If you haven't yet picked yours up it is in the teachers' lunchroom upstairs. Also, thank you to Allie Schmitz for volunteering a day of instruction in Highland Dance. She teaches Highland Dance at the Hart School of Dance.

Eagle Bluff
Thank you to all the 8th grade students who attended Eagle Bluff this year and once again represented CVA fabulously! I also wanted to thank CVA Teachers Amanda and Robyn and CVA Parents Mark Ahlstrom (Mairead's Dad), Ron Kreps (Ryken's Dad) and Kirsten Seal (Jacob's Mom) for all of their time and efforts in making this trip a huge success!

Handbells - calling all (non-8th grade) ringers
We have one last opportunity this year to serve our community by playing at the Graduation ceremony on Friday at 4:00. If your student has played bells this year or last and would like to participate, there will be one rehearsal this Monday, May 21st from 3:30-4:30. We will be playing pomp and circumstance at the beginning of the program so if you have to leave early you can. |

Calling All Books!
It's time for spring cleaning! Return those CVA library books! Here are some places you may want to search: in the car, under the bed, between the couch cushions, on the shelf, in your tree fort, and at your Grandma's house. The library is now closed for the school year. You may continue to return books as you find them, but items are no longer available for checkout.

ALEKS math program
available over the summer! CVA can keep your child's ALEKS account open throughout the summer! (Otherwise all accounts expire and will not be renewed until the new school year begins.) This option is available to all students currently using the ALEKS program.
- If you are interested in this option, please let the front office know on or before Friday, May 25.
- The cost of this option is $50; $25 will go directly to CVA and $25 will go to your child's math teacher (if paying by check, please write 2 separate checks).
If you have any questions, please contact your child's math teacher or the front office.
