Greetings!
Someone said that the only constant is change. I'd like to take this time to say a couple of welcomes and goodbyes. Our best wishes go to Cole Strilzuk who has moved from our special ed support staff to a full time work with a group home for disabled persons and to Dominique Connell our wonderful receptionist as she goes to full time work with the BBB. Welcome and thank you to Susannah Dodge (Cherie's daughter who has subbed for her in the Fall trimesters) who will fill as receptionist for the rest of this year. You may also have noticed that Melissa Onyango-Robshaw is going to be leaving us temporarily for maternity leave (congratulations and best wishes!). Her position will be covered by the team of Patty McDonald (our wonderful technology teacher), Gerry Fuller, our tech support person and Lauren Odle, our former registrar and now Spanish teacher and communications manager. We are extremely fortunate to have such a flexible and talented team. We'll miss those who are leaving and continue to work together for the success of our students.

MYP @ CVA
We have several IB-Middle Years Program units in progress in CVA classrooms. Jennifer Naglak's musical performance unit is a school-wide unit that assesses MYP students in Levels 1-3+. The unit title is "All the World's a Stage and You're on It!" The unit question is "What would you have to do to learn to play all the parts in a whole production by yourself?"
Patty McDonald's MYP unit in Technology is "Web Design" for Levels 1-3+. Her unit question is "How can I express myself through Web design?"
Lauren Odle's Level 3+ class is involved in the unit called People on the Move. The unit question is "Just because I can, should I?"
Robyn Mesenbring's Geometry class just finished the unit Polygon Properties. The unit question was "How do you decide which building blocks will shape your answer?"
Robyn's Levels 2 and 3 are in the middle of the unit "In Days Gone By." Their unit question is "How have different cultural groups used symbols in mathematics through the ages?"
In the Level 1 Math class, Robyn's students are exploring the unit question "How can transformations be used to create effective company logos?" in the unit called "It's a Sign."
Cherie Neima's Level 3+ Global Studies students are beginning a unit on the French Revolution called "We're Revolting. Really? Really!" Their unit question is "What might cause you to risk everything to revolt?"
As you walk the halls of CVA, look for the signs outside the classroom doors that let you know an MYP unit is in progress. Ask your child to tell you about MYP units going on in CVA Level 1-3+ classes.

Level 2 Child Labor Fundraiser
Monday is the last day to donate money. If you have already donated - THANK YOU! Don't forget to bring your electronic for Advisory. Advisors will have a list of students who have the pass for the day.
We have raised over $100 so far!!
That means we have funded the education of a child worker for an entire year!
Level 2 is doing a fundraiser for those children affected by child labor. They have chosen to raise money for an organization called Zindagi Trust. The organization helps aid in the education of children who are a part of child labor.
Feel free to check out the website at http://www.zindagitrust.org/whatwedo.php
$75 funds a year of primary education for a child worker. Hopefully we can raise enough money to fund the education of 4 children! Level 2 is asking for donations of $3. This donation will help support Zindagi Trust and children in Pakistan. You can donate more if you'd like!
Your donation will also purchase an ELECTRONICS PASS. Your Advisor will let you use electronics Monday, April 16 during your Advisory time. You can bring in electronics to use during Advisory (and Advisory only). This might be an iPod, PSP or DS.
REMEMBER - CVA IS NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY LOST OR STOLEN ITEMS. Bring something that you can keep track of an be responsible for.

International Days @ CVA Children Around the World
In May, while the 8th graders are at Eagle Bluff, we are planning for 2 days of activities designed to expand our students' international understanding. We are planning for hands on interactive activities that will break down stereotypes and foster understanding of differences and commonalities that humans all over the world have. We will be focusing especially on Games, crafts and hobbies that are practiced by children in various countries. We will be making kites and flying them, cooking and tasting some international foods, creating toys from found objects and creating and playing some international games. In addition, we plan to have a performance time for students who choose to go in depth in either dance or music classes. Do you have expertise you could lend? Artifacts that could be loaned to our 'international museum'? Music you'd like to play? Dances you'd like to teach? please contact Lauren Odle or Jennifer Naglak if you'd like to be involved in any way, no matter how small. Look soon for a resources list of items that could be donated or loaned.
