Study Center Reminder

This is just a friendly reminder that ALL students who use the study center are expected to come prepared with a detailed plan on what they're planning to accomplish while in the study center.  This can be documented in any form and filled out by either the student themselves, a parent or a combination of both.  If you don't have a planner, you can download a copy of the CVA student planner by clicking here If you have any questions please feel free to contact Mr. Orr or  Mrs. Naglak.

Eagle Bluff Reminder

(8th Graders ONLY)

Just a reminder that your $25 deposit for our end of the year field trip to Eagle Bluff Environmental Learning Center is was due by Tuesday, December 20th to Melissa in her office or to Mr. Orr.  If you have not turned this in or have questions about this please contact Mr. Orr
ASAP.

Greetings!
As you know in this day and age of tightening belts, government agencies are trying to cut their budgets.  I'm sure that many of these cuts are needed, but a recent cut has been proposed by the IRS that will directly affect charter school teachers in a negative way. This regulation would force states to prohibit charter school teachers from participating in state retirement plans. Presently, every single state that authorizes charter schools either requires or permits charter school participation in the state's retirement system.

Please assist us in preventing the adoption of these unfair regulations.  Click here to take action and please forward this email to other public charter school supporters. I sent the suggested message to the IRS from CVA and home addresses with different email addresses. You might do the same to block this! :-)

Volunteers Needed for History Day Judges

CVA
History Day is February 28 this year from 3:00-4:00 in the gym for parents and family friends. We are looking for
judges who will work in teams to judge approximately 5 projects per team.

Judges will meet in Cherie's classroom at 2:15. She will provide judging sheets and walk through the judging process with the judges prior to the start of the event at 3:00. Judges should be prepared to enjoy the students' presentations! Judges will then meet with Cherie after the end of the fair at 4:00 in her classroom to discuss findings as a group. These findings are critical to determine which students will go on to regionals.

If you are interested in volunteering to be a History Day Judge, please send Cherie an email.

DEMOCRACY NEEDS YOU!

A message from the MN Association of

Charter Schools

On Tuesday, February 7, 2012, at 7:00 p.m., five of Minnesota's political parties (Constitution, Democratic- Farmer-Labor (DFL), Green, Independence and Republican) will hold precinct caucuses to begin the process of selecting legislative candidates and shaping public policy issues for this year's elections. It is an especially important year as all (67) state senators and (134) state legislators, as well as members of the U.S. House and one U.S. Senate seat are up for election.

Every person eligible to vote in the general election on November 6th and who resides in the precinct in which he or she is eligible to vote can attend and vote in precinct caucuses.

Precinct caucuses are grassroots democracy at the most elemental level - it is you and your neighbors discussing candidates and policies that will shape the future of our state and nation.

For more information about precinct caucuses and the location of your precinct caucus of the political party of your choice:

Student Council

The CVA Stud
sandwichesent Council successfully completed their second "sandwich-making" activity for Our Saviour's Housing in Minneapolis. Sara H, Aniq A, Will S, Joshua C, Zayd S and Seamus F made 55 sandwiches to deliver to the shelter. What a great way to show you care! Thanks for volunteering!

Re-Enrollment Time!

For families whose children will be returning to CVA next year, our reenrollment window is now open.  Current families have preference for next year's placement, and siblings have priority over new families.

Enrollment will be open to the public via lottery on March 1st for any spots still unfilled by current CVA families.
Enrollment forms have been placed in student mailboxes, or you can click here to download and print the form.

Forms should be returned to Dominique or Melissa in the front office.

Green Sneakers EcoChallenge for Education Updated

This year in recognition of Earth Day, 2012 our 8th graders are taking the GreenSneakers EcoChallenge for Education to help raise funds for our 8th grade end of the year field trip to Eagle Bluff. Our school also has the opportunity to win up to $5,000 for collecting as many new or gently used tennis shoes that we can.

We are asking that families look around the house, ask neighbors, friends and relatives for old shoes. Even if we don't win one of the top 3 prizes we will receive 50 cents per pound for all the shoes collected. The money awarded to our school will go towards lowering the cost of our 8th grade end of the year field trip to Eagle Bluff Environmental Learning Center and other field trip costs for the entire school. You can turn in all shoes to Mr. Orr or there are 2 white boxes with green plastic bags in them located by the student mailboxes! If you have any questions click here  to contact Mr. Orr.

Thank you for helping people, the planet, and Cyber Village Academy!

Start Date: January 23, 2012
