Study Center Reminder

This is just a friendly reminder that ALL students who use the study center are expected to come prepared with a detailed plan on what they're planning to accomplish while in the study center.  This can be documented in any form and filled out by either the student themselves, a parent or a combination of both.  If you don't have a planner, you can download a copy of the CVA student planner by clicking here If you have any questions please feel free to contact Mr. Orr or  Mrs. Naglak.

Eagle Bluff Reminder

(8th Graders ONLY)

Just a reminder that your $25 deposit for our end of the year field trip to Eagle Bluff Environmental Learning Center is was due by Tuesday, December 20th to Melissa in her office or to Mr. Orr.  If you have not turned this in or have questions about this please contact Mr. Orr
ASAP.

Greetings!

Well, winter has finally arrived!  Hope your families are weathering it well.  Please remember to send your children dressed in layers for their safety, and also so that they can adjust for various classrooms temperatures as well as outdoors lunchtime recesses.  Unless it is below zero (in actual temperature or with the wind chill factor) it is fresh air and outdoor play at lunch!  Students must be wearing boots to go onto the snowy areas. Hats and hoods are still not appropriate inside the building, but a must for outdoors!

David Alley
Handbells announcement

There will be NO handbell rehearsals this coming week as the bells are still in the 'shop' for refurbishing.  Next rehearsals should be Jan 30th and Feb 1st.

DEMOCRACY NEEDS YOU!

A message from the MN Association of

Charter Schools

On Tuesday, February 7, 2012, at 7:00 p.m., five of Minnesota's political parties (Constitution, Democratic- Farmer-Labor (DFL), Green, Independence and Republican) will hold precinct caucuses to begin the process of selecting legislative candidates and shaping public policy issues for this year's elections. It is an especially important year as all (67) state senators and (134) state legislators, as well as members of the U.S. House and one U.S. Senate seat are up for election.

Every person eligible to vote in the general election on November 6th and who resides in the precinct in which he or she is eligible to vote can attend and vote in precinct caucuses.

Precinct caucuses are grassroots democracy at the most elemental level - it is you and your neighbors discussing candidates and policies that will shape the future of our state and nation.

For more information about precinct caucuses and the location of your precinct caucus of the political party of your choice:

History Day Hullabaloo

Just a reminder that there is a Hullabaloo at the Minneapolis Central Library this Saturday from 11-3. The library is located downtown Minneapolis on Nicollet between 3rd and 4th. Students who attend will receive 10 points extra credit. The state History Day Helpers (look for people in blue bowling shirts) will have proof of participation slips to give to the students that they can bring back to CVA. They can be a huge help to students who need sources and ideas about putting together their projects. Also, there will be a parent Q & A session starting at 12:30 if parents are interested. Let Cherie know if you have questions.

Future City Students Awarded

The future city team has completed the competition for the 2011 - 2012 school year. The students nailed the presentation, answered judges questions with confidence and overall represented CVA at a top notch level. To me, this was the best competition level I have witnessed from our students in the three years of this extra-curricular activity at CVA. The students did not score in the top 5, however they dd receive the "Safe Drinking Water Award" presented by the Minnesota Department of Health and American Water Works Association.

Congratulations to student presenters Seamus, Noah and Caleb.

Concordia Language Villages

20 Students and 2 parents participated last week in another great Concordia Language Village overnight field trip to the Wilder Forest near Stillwater, MN.   The students sang, danced, played sports, cooked, did crafts, played games, ate authentic food and just generally had a great time... all in Spanish!  Many thanks to the parents who helped drive and the two hereos (Renee Z and Saleem A) who spent the night and helped the entire two days!CLV group
Concordia Language Villages programs are internationally recognized as effective language learning opportunities and Cyber Village Academy students have been participating for the last 4 years.   A second trip is planned for March 30 & 31.  If your 6th -8th grade student is interested in coming along, please let Lauren know.  As the time comes closer, registration forms will be placed in student mailboxes and the  trip will be announced in Spanish classes as well as here in the News From the Village.

Re-Enrollment Time!

For families whose children will be returning to CVA next year, our reenrollment window is now open.  Current families have preference for next year's placement, and siblings have priority over new families.

Enrollment will be open to the public via lottery on March 1st for any spots still unfilled by current CVA families.
Enrollment forms have been placed in student mailboxes, or you can click here to download and print the form.

Forms should be returned to Dominique or Melissa in the front office.

Green Sneakers EcoChallenge for Education

This year in recognition of Earth Day, 2012 our 8th graders are taking the GreenSneakers EcoChallenge for Education to help raise funds for our 8th grade end of the year field trip to Eagle Bluff.  Our school also has the opportunity to win up to $5,000 for collecting as many new or gently used tennis shoes that we can.

We are asking that families look around the house, ask neighbors, friends and relatives for old shoes.  Even if we don't win one of the top 3 prizes we will receive 50 cents per pound for all the shoes collected.  The money awarded to our school will go towards lowering the cost of our 8th grade end of the year field trip to Eagle Bluff Environmental Learning Center and other field trip costs for the entire school. You can turn in all shoes to Mr. Orr!

Thank you for helping people, the planet, and Cyber Village Academy!

Start Date: January 23, 2012

End Date: April 22, 2012
