Friday April 8, 2011 8:00 PM Lane University Center 111 Spike Lee's follow-up to his unlikely hit She's Gotta Have It was this ambitious--some would say too ambitious--attempt at a musical about college life. But Lee, ever the provocateur, doesn't settle for a simple college comedy. Rather, he wants to make a point about the social divisions within all-black colleges: between the socializers and the socially conscious, and between light and dark-skinned blacks. Laurence Fishburne plays a politically aware student trying to bring his fellow students together; Giancarlo Esposito plays the fraternity boss who constantly seeks to insert a wedge between the haves and have-nots. Lee himself plays a pawn in the middle, a would-be frat boy undergoing a wicked Hell Week as a pledge. The story doesn't pull together and the musical numbers--more spoof than anything else--only serve to fragment it. While it offers interesting points, it never does so in a particularly cohesive way. Frostburg State University is once again competing in the annual RecycleMania Tournament, and we need everyone's help to recycle the most and take the title!! RecycleMania is an 8-week competition between over 600 colleges across the country and around the world that started on February 6th and ends on April 2nd. FSU is competing to have the highest percentage of recycled materials, the largest number of pounds of recycling per person on campus, and the lowest number of pounds of garbage per person. Below are tips that will help every FSU student, faculty, and staff member ensure a Bobcat Victory in RecycleMania!! START RECYCLING if you haven't already!! Recycling bins are located on every floor of every building on campus. Recycling stations have bins for plastic and glass bottles, cans, and mixed paper (office paper, newspaper, magazines). Instead of throwing your plastic bottle in a trash can, carry it the extra two or three feet to a recycling bin. ONLY RECYCLE materials listed on the bins. Trash or items that do not match the label contaminate the recycling load and disqualify the bag from the competition. In order to be able to count all of our recycling it is CRITICAL that you follow the labels on the bins. GET INFORMATION on how FSU is doing in the competition by visiting the Learning Green, Living Green Facebook page http://www.facebook.com/frostburglglg. Recycling information is updated weekly as we submit our results to RecycleMania. You can find out more about RecycleMania at www.recyclemania.org. TELL YOUR FRIENDS about the competition and encourage them to start recycling.
