Houmas House Plantation and Gardens

Summer Lovin'
Egret and Fountain
Summer has finally arrived at Houmas House.  The gardens are bursting with every shade of red, yellow, pink, and orange.  It's the season for large brimmed hats, afternoon rain showers, and long naps under the mossy oaks.  Since we're just a quick jaunt from New Orleans, visiting Houmas House is the perfect way to complete your south Louisiana vacation. But don't take our word for it.  See what others have to say about their experience to the Sugar Palace.

Secrets from Latil's Landing
Louisiana Seafood Pasta
 LA Seafood Pasta

1 lb Louisiana Crawfish tail meat

1 lb fresh shrimp

2 lb penne pasta

2 tablespoons olive oil

1/2 cup chopped yellow onions

2 teaspoons minced garlic

2 1/2 cups chopped, seeded tomatoes

1/2 cup fresh basil, chopped

1/2 cup shellfish stock

1 tablespoon tomato paste

1 cup heavy cream

grated Parmesans cheese

salt and pepper to taste

In a large pot, boil pasta in salted water until pasta is cooked. Drain pasta and cool under cold running water, set aside.

Heat the oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the crawfish, shrimp, onions, and cook, about 3 minutes. Add the garlic and cook for 30 seconds. Add the tomatoes, basil, and cook until the tomatoes give up their liquid, about 5 minutes, stirring from time to time. Add the shellfish broth, tomato paste, and heavy cream. Bring to a boil and cook until reduced by 50 percent in volume. Season sauce with salt and pepper. Add cooked pasta and gently toss in the cream sauce. When pasta is heated though, serve in large pastas bowls and top with Parmesans cheese.

Grace Celebrating
I recently celebrated my birthday!  What a fun day to be at Houmas House.  To make the day extra special I was visited by the Queen...the American Queen Steamboat, that is. And she brought over 400 people to see me on my special day!
I enjoyed the most decadent cake, took pictures with visitors from around the globe, and was endlessly spoiled by all who love me.
It's always an enchanting experience to visit Houmas House. You never know what the day will bring.  I sincerely thank everyone from the bottom of my heart for making this birthday my most memorable ever.
What birthday was most memorable for you?
