THE FIVE DISTINCT DRIVING PERSONALITIES

According to Allstate Insurance Co., all drivers can be divided into five distinct personality types.  Finding out what driving personality applies can help you figure out what kind of car you would be happiest with.

Auto-Matics:  This is the most popular personality, accounting for 23% of all drivers.  Auto-Matics, while generally safe and confident drivers, have been known to speed on occasion.  They are likely to feel that the car they drive is "distinctly styled," "attention-getting," "trendy" and "extravagant."

Auto-Nomous:
Twenty-one percent of drivers are Auto-Nomous, which means they enjoy looking at scenery while driving, and consider themselves "rugged" and "powerful."  They are least likely to own an economical vehicle, preferring pickups and SUV's.  Not surprisingly, they are most likely to complain about fuel prices.  Auto-Nomous drivers believe they are good drivers, and consider their cars places of comfort to them.  Of this group, 63% are male.

Auto-Bahner:
These drivers are fast and aggressive.  They have little patience for the mistakes of other drivers.  They admit to having driven 20 mph over the speed limit, and are the most likely to be pulled over by law-enforcement.  Auto-Bahners make up 17% of all drivers, but 63% of this group are male.

Auto-Pragmatic:
If the word "practical" describes both the way you drive and what you drive, you probably belong in this category.  Their driving style is safe and cautious, and their cars are convenient, economical, and environmentally friendly.  Auto- Pragmatics take particularly good care of their vehicles.  Women make up 69% of Auto-Pragmatics.

Auto-Pilot:
The words that describe Auto-Pilot personality drivers are "reliable" and "family-oriented."  These drivers prefer to occupy the passenger's seat and rely on their vehicles for doing everyday chores, but do not feel that their cars represent who they really are.  Seventy-one percent of Auto-Pilots are female.
