 Joe Faris Fashion Designer, Project Runway Alum and Metro-Detroiter Joe has taken the first step towards establishing an apparel industry in southeastern Michigan with the creation of Motor City Design Co. The brand is "Born in Michigan" and "Made in U.S.A.", the collection is a mix of high-fashion elements with an industrial edge. Motor City Design is created and constructed entirely in Michigan. A former Project Runway Season 5 contestant, Joe made it to the Top 6 out of 16 Designers which granted him a showing at Bryant Park New York Fashion Week Project Runway Season 5 Final Fashion Show. Joe has already positively impacted the community by creating media attention that is Nationally turning-around Detroit's reputation as an industrial city in decline and redefining Detroit's Garment Industry. The Local clothing designer nationally known for his work in season five of Lifetime Television's "Project Runway" is putting his weight behind an effort to firmly entrench the Motor City on the fashion map. "I'm excited about the forward movement," Faris said. "It's about the big picture. I'm willing to go after Ralph Lauren and tell them they need to be making clothing here. I believe this can change the landscape of what we do here in Detroit." Joe is passionately committed to bringing the garment industry back to the US and Metro-Detroit. For Ages 8 to 18
An exciting addition to the American Sewing Expo this year is the Fashion Boot Camp series taught by Designer Joi Mahon. Joi is an engaging and energetic teacher with a keen sence of current fashion and a fun aesthetic. Joi loves to inspire young sewers and will spend two hands on classes teaching aspiring designers techniques she uses in her studio every day. Learn about trends, storyboards, creativity and basic sketching and rendering in Part One, and in Part two, create a fun trendy project and participate in a fashion photo shoot. Finish your fashion experience with our "flash mob impromptu fashion show on the ASE runway immediately after class. You won't want to miss this experience, and each student will be receiving a generous gift package sponsored by Baby Lock and Designer Joi along with a Fashion Boot Camp Logo Shirt. Plus, a few lucky students will receive Designer Joi's special FASHION AWARD! Only a few spaces are left so don't miss out.

Join other sewing enthusiasts as we tour NYC, visit designers' workrooms, costume makers, see a Broadway play, shop for fabrics, leathers, trims, buttons and sew much more....!

This tour took all the fears of visiting a big city away. With Marsha and Marla guiding us on to the correct subway or bus we visited the inner sanctums of designers, wholesale fabric houses, found little niche fabric shops. We cruised around Manhattan island and dined very well. I just wish I could have done this 40 years ago but I experienced it in this lifetime. Don't put this trip off!! Cherry Delaney
