2013 NYC Fashion Sewing Tour
Join Marsha McClintock & Janet Pray in NYC

Once a year Islander Sewing Systems and American Sewing Expo come together with Marsha McClintock of Sew Many Option Tours to create the fashion sewing vacation of a lifetime in NYC!
Happy NYC Shopper
We only take 20 people so the experience is intimate and rewarding. We visit iconic locations like Rockefeller Center as we take you on a half day guided bus tour of the city. You will experience: visits to well known fashion designer's workrooms, a private docent tour of vintage designer garments at FIT, a popular Broadway Play, museum exhibits of fashion, shopping at leather stores, trim shops, and a plethora of fabric stores and an evening dinner cruise around the island of Manhattan and many surprises.

April 1 - 4, 2013 Certification Class

ISS sewinghands

The annual workshop and certification class is one of our favorite events. The class size is limited and in a relaxed setting.

Join us for three days of professional techniques and an optional fourth day for those wishing to become a certified Islander Sewing Systems instructor. Two optional field trips are also available: to a better fabric store and a "snoop shopping" trip.

The first day and half will consist of making samples from a provided pre-cut kit of the basic Islander Sewing Systems techniques (learning to sew without pins). The next day and half you will construct a man's shirt from the provided pattern. By making this shirt you will learn even more industrial techniques and take home a lovely shirt as well.

For those wishing to certify, the fourth day will be a short day with a lecture and Q&A on teaching sewing as a business.

More information and details are available on the website or call us at: 248-889-5091.

Judith Newman's Jacket
Judith Newman Koos front
Judith, an Islander Sewing Systems Certified Instructor was with us on the 2012 NYC Fashion Sewing Tour. Here is the beautiful  jacket she made after being inspired by our trip to Koos' workroom and boutique on Madison Ave.

 Judith Newman Koos back

"I had a piece of red raw silk for 20 or more years but had never done anything with it. Before the NYC trip I brought it out of the stash, cut a swatch and brought it with me . First  I found the buttons at  (M & J Trim).  When we visited Koos' studio and the boutique and I tried on the Koos appliqué jacket I knew what I was going to do with the red silk. "
