Meet D.O. Gooder - Maj. Roy R. Danks, D.O. Maj. Roy R. Danks, D.O. (COM '98), recently returned to his practice with the Saint Luke's Medical Group in Leavenworth, Kan., following a deployment to Afghanistan. Having served as a trauma surgeon in a combat zone, Dr. Danks saw his share of injuries and indirect fire. In one day, he and the five members of his surgical team performed 13 major amputations, four laparotomies, two neck explorations with vessel repair, a thoracotomy and countless other wound debridements. On another day, the team withstood six rocket attacks; fortunately, none of which resulted in injuries. KCUMB would like to thank all military members for their service to our country. We want to hear from you! Email cwahlert@kcumb.edu your idea for the next D.O. Gooder. Self nominations are accepted. |

KCUMB Students Celebrate Diversity
When Tomia Hines and Kameelah Rahmaan arrived on campus in fall 2010, the two were interested in joining an organization that represented who they were and what they cared about. Not feeling an immediate connection to any existing organization, the two soon founded Advocates for Diversity in Medicine (ADM), a group that would come to emphasize diversity and community service. Nearly two years later, ADM has more than 30 members, representing 10 different ethnicities.
