Greetings!
As we begin the New Year, we're looking forward to many exciting events, including our mission trip to the Dominican Republic and Homecoming, Sept. 19-22, 2012.
But first, we'd like to share some of our favorite moments from 2011.

Meet D.O. Gooder Dr. Keith Morrow
Dr. Keith Morrow (COM '85) recently received the 2011 Country Doctor of the Year Award for his dedication and service following a devastating tornado last April. Dr. Morrow and his 15-person staff opened clinics under tents to provide immediate medical care for the towns Hackleburg and Phil Campbell, Ala.

KCUMB in the Community
In just six weeks, second-year osteopathic medical students completed more than 675 hours of community service. Students volunteered at 20 non-profit organizations, including Project Uplift, a homeless outreach program, where they prepared and delivered hot meals to approximately 60 homeless people in the Kansas City area.

Dr. Johnston Demonstrates Vscan on KCTV5
On Nov. 22, Kansas City's local CBS television affiliate, KCTV5, featured KCUMB as one of the first medical schools in the country to use Vscan ultrasound technology in the classroom. G. Michael Johnston, D.O. (COM '73), MACOI, chair and professor of internal medicine, demonstrated the Vscan and spoke about benefits of using the handheld ultrasound equipment as a teaching tool.

Student Places in Cliff Hanger Run
Janelle Stevens, a third-year osteopathic medical student, placed first in the 5K women's division at the 2011 Cliff Hanger 5K and 8K Run. Stevens was one of 100 KCUMB runners in the Nov. 6 race, which took place along the Northeast Neighborhood's historic and scenic Cliff Drive.

Missouri Comets Selects KCUMB
KCUMB students and residents will have an opportunity to work with professional athletes thanks to a three-year agreement with the Missouri Comets indoor soccer team. As the official medical provider for the team, KCUMB will also work with Kansas City area youth through the Comets Youth Soccer Camp programs.

Dominican Republic Mission Trip
This month, KCUMB faculty and students will travel to the Kansas City Royals Baseball Academy in the Dominican Republic to provide sports physicals for Royals prospects. While there, they will also provide free healthcare to residents of the surrounding communities.

KCUMB Homecoming will take place September 19-22, 2012, on the KCUMB campus. We will be celebrating the classes of 1952, 1957, 1962, 1967, 1972, 1977, 1982, 1987, 1992, 1997, 2002 and 2007.
