Music Between the Waves...

On March 8, Governor Robert Bentley announced that BP would provide $16 million to promote tourism events and travel along the Alabama Gulf Coast. One of the local projects receiving promotion funds included $250,000 for Music between the Waves concert series on Dauphin Island and in South Mobile County. "Alabama was hardest hit of all the Gulf Coast states by last year's BP Oil Spill, said Bentley."Alabama will use these funds to promote tourism to our Gulf Coast communities as that we can begin to recoup the losses suffered since the disaster."


Home Four the Holidays - Saturday, December 3

Join Mobile Opera artists Scott& Sarah Wright, Stacey Driskell & Tommy Rowell, with the lovely piano sounds of Christopher Lovely, for a nostalgic holiday concert right out of 1943. The forties era produced beautiful tunes and meaningful lyrics that four popular singers have blended into a sentimental journey with Christmas trimmings. Performances at 6:00, 6:30, 7:00 and 7:30 PM on the South Terrace

 

Roman Street- Friday, December 9

Roman Street is a local band from Mobile, Ala who specializes in creating a worldly fusion of flamenco and jazz.The guitarists of Roman Street have incorporated their international training and travels into their unique musical sound. Roman Street combines traditional and modern musical elements to create a one-of-a-kind sound that appeals to audiences of all ages.

 

  

**DO YOU WANT CHRISTMAS ?** Roman Street's Christmas music blends elements of their exotic music into classical Christmas melodies we know and love. Performances are between 6:00 and 8:00 PM on the South Terrace

 

  

Mithril - Saturday, December 17

Mithril is a local band dedicated to performing traditional Celtic music with hints of folk, classical, and Middle Eastern tones to their sound.They have played all over the Southeast, setting an attendance record at the Mobile Symphony for their performance. The members of Mithril have traveled from Nova Scotia to Ireland and performed alongside some of the most respected Celtic musicians to create true authenticity to their Celtic sound.

 

Mithril - Andra Bohnet, Tom Morley, Ben Harper and David Hughes - will perform at Magic Christmas in Lights thanks to a grant from BP. The ensemble uses a wide array of traditional instruments, including Irish flute, whistle, fife, Celtic harp, fiddle, bouzouki, mandolin, guitar, bodhran and harmonium. The have come to bring a Celtic sense to our holiday season, and to transport us to the lands of Ireland for the night. Performances between 6:00 and 8:00 PM on the South Terrance.

 

North Pole Stroll    

December 2rd from 5:30 PM to 8:00 PM

 North Pole Stroll

The North Pole Stroll is a free, family holiday event in Downtown Mobile that takes place the first Friday evening in December. Dozens of venues, including Bellingrath, will offer activities for families, such as Letters to Santa, a visit to Whoville, Merry-oke (Kids Karaoke), Gulf Coast Exploreum Open House, Facebook Scavenger Hunt, visiting Santa and much, much more... all with snow falling on Royal Street.

Everyone that likes the North Pole Stroll Facebook page and attends the event on December 2nd can participate in the Facebook Scavenger Hunt. There will be great prizes at each stop. Stay tuned for details.

The holiday tradition continues as Bellingrath Gardens and Home celebrates Magic Christmas in Lights.  Stroll through over 3 million sparkling lights and over 950 displays throughout the 65 acre Garden estate.  The Bellingrath Home is decorated in its holiday finery and poinsettias encompass the Gardens.  Nightly choral performances are held on the South Terrace of the Bellingrath Home.  

 

Magic Christmas in Lights is a fun family event for Like us on Facebookeveryone, guests can also have their photographs taken with Santa, have dinner in the Magnolia Cafe and find the perfect holiday gift can be found for that someone special in Bellingrath's magnificently stocked Gift Shop.

 

Tickets for Magic Christmas in Lights are on sale now online at  www.bellingrath.org, at the Urban Emporium downtown, and at Bellingrath during regular hours of admission. Tickets can also be purchased at participating Regions Banks beginning on November 14th. Guests with pre-purchased ticket will have a special entrance during Magic Christmas.

Urban Emporium  

The Urban Emporium at 260 Dauphin Street opened its doors during the October ArtWalk on October 14, 2011. The first three tenants in this retail incubator are Bellingrath Gardens and Home Gift Shop; Shelby Home, a purveyor of gourmet foods; and a women's clothing store. The Emporium gives aspiring new or expanding retailers an opportunity to test the downtown waters in a supportive environment that provides staffing and a short term lease.

 

Bellingrath is pleased Like us on Facebookto be a part of this project led by the Downtown Mobile Alliance. It will give the Gardens a stronger relationship with the downtown Mobile area while encouraging the primary goal of to grow independent, small entrepreneurs into successful retailers who will fill the storefronts throughout the downtown area.
