Kiku Matsuri Chrysanthemum Festival November 12th 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM
Come help us celebrate Mums with an Asian Flair at Bellingrath's Kiku Matsuri - Chrysanthemum Festival! Kiku Matsuri is the fifth of the five annual festivals in the traditional Japanese calendar. The chrysanthemum is the official flower of Japan and is a symbol of longevity, power, dignity and nobility. This year our celebration with be the second week-end in November ... just as our Cascade Mums begin to peak.
We are very pleased to welcome back the Mobile Chapter of Ikebana International for our celebration. On Friday, November 11th from 10:00 a.m.- 1:00 p.m. the Mobile Chapter of Ikebana International will meet and create arrangements. Guests are invited to attend the meeting or to simply watch members create their wonderful arrangements. Arrangements will be on display in the Magnolia Café on Friday afternoon and throughout the day on Saturday.
On Saturday, November 12, 2011 from 10:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. Bellingrath will welcome the Bonsai Society and their beautiful living sculptures which will be on display in the Magnolia Café along with the Ikebana arrangements. The Sumi-e Society will be demonstrating their art and will be happy to teach you how to draw chrysanthemums. The Mobile Ichihara Sister City Association (MISCA) will be on Live Oak Plaza to share information about their organization and to teach the art of origami. You can help us make an origami crane chain. We will complete the celebration with an authentic Japanese Tea Ceremony in the Boehm Gallery and traditional Japanese dancers performing Sho No Ryu school & Okinawan dances on Live Oak Plaza!
Of course, Bellingrath Gardens will be full of our beautiful Cascade Mums. Don't miss the film in Boehm Gallery that shows how we grow these living masterpieces.

Magic Christmas in Lights

The holiday tradition continues as Bellingrath Gardens and Home celebrates Magic Christmas in Lights. Stroll through over 3 million sparkling lights and over 950 displays throughout the 65 acre Garden estate. The Bellingrath Home is decorated in its holiday finery and poinsettias encompass the Gardens. Nightly choral performances are held on the South Terrace of the Bellingrath Home. Opening night will be on November 25th at 5:00 PM and will feature the special  performances from the University of South Alabama Chorale. The Launch the Lights Sweepstakes winners, Valerie Charles Howard from Louisiana will flip the "official switch" to kick-off the 2011 season.
Magic Christmas in Lights is a fun family event for everyone, guests can also have their photographs taken with Santa, have dinner in the Magnolia Cafe and find the perfect holiday gift can be found for that someone special in Bellingrath's magnificently stocked Gift Shop.
Tickets for Magic Christmas in Lights are on sale now online at www.bellingrath.org, at the Urban Emporium downtown, and at Bellingrath during regular hours of admission. Tickets can also be purchased at participating Regions Banks beginning on November 14th. Guests with pre-purchased ticket will have a special entrance during Magic Christmas.

Bellingrath in Downtown Mobile
The Urban Emporium at 260 Dauphin Street opened its doors during the October ArtWalk on October 14, 2011. The first three tenants in this retail incubator are Bellingrath Gardens and Home Gift Shop; Shelby Home, a purveyor of gourmet foods; and a women's clothing store. The Emporium gives aspiring new or expanding retailers an opportunity to test the downtown waters in a supportive environment that provides staffing and a short term lease.
Bellingrath is pleased to be a part of this project led by the Downtown Mobile Alliance. It will give the Gardens a stronger relationship with the downtown Mobile area while encouraging the primary goal of to grow independent, small entrepreneurs into successful retailers who will fill the storefronts throughout the downtown area.

The North Pole Stroll is a free, family holiday event in Downtown Mobile that takes place the first Friday evening in December. Dozens of venues, including Bellingrath, will offer activities for families, such as Letters to Santa, a visit to Whoville, Merry-oke (Kids Karaoke), Gulf Coast Exploreum Open House, Facebook Scavenger Hunt, visiting Santa and much, much more... all with snow falling on Royal Street.
Everyone that likes the North Pole Stroll Facebook page and attends the event on December 2nd can participate in the Facebook Scavenger Hunt. There will be great prizes at each stop. Stay tuned for details.

2011 Fall Floral Showcase
Thanks to everyone that donated to Bellingrath Gardens and Home with their participation in the Fall Floral Showcase with Benny Campbell. The event was enjoyed by all. A special thanks to the planning committee for all their hard work making the event a success.
Make plans to attend the 2012 Fall Floral Showcase on Wednesday, October 17, 2012. Bellingrath will announce the featured floral designer this summer.
