Camellia Day and Mini Camellia Show
February 5 from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM
It is all about the Camellia at Bellingrath Gardens and Home on Saturday, February 5th. Bellingrath and the Camellia Club of South Alabama will host several seminars about the care and cultivation of camellias. Visitors are also invited to bring their prized Camellia blossoms to the Magnolia Café to display in the Mini Camellia Show. Containers will be provided by the Camellia Club. Members will also be available to answer questions and identify blossoms.
CAMELLIA PROGRAMS - (Programs are free and open to the public)
10:00 AM - How to Graft & Care for the Graft
Presenters: Rick Crow; Owner of 20 acres of camellias and Blanding Drinkard; Nurseryman and Master Grafter
Rick Crow and Blanding Drinkard will share their favorite techniques for grafting camellias and caring for the camellias over the next year.
11:00 AM - Camellia Petal Forms
Presenter: Becky Root; President of the Camellia Club of South Alabama and Owner of Clark Root Gardens
Becky Root will describe camellia petal forms in 54 photos of the most popular camellias. Guests are invited to bring their camellia blooms with leaves for identification.
1:00 PM - Waxing Camellias
Presenter: Brenda Litchfield, Ph.D.; Founder and Past President of the Camellia Club of South Alabama
Dr. Brenda Litchfield will help us wax our favorite blossoms. Brenda will provide blossoms, but feel free to bring your own. Lots of fun and always a favorite activity for Camellia lovers of all ages.
2:00 PM - Tour of Bellingrath's Camellias
Presenter: Becky Root; President of the Camellia Club of South Alabama and Owner of Clark Root Gardens
Becky has spent hours discovering all of the different Camellias planted throughout Bellingrath Gardens. She will guide you through the Gardens on this special plant tour. $12.00 Garden admission is required to participate in this program.
