A New Water Feature For the Gardens

Rose Garden RestorationFrom Walter Bellingrath's purchase of property along the Fowl River to the collaboration of Bessie Bellingrath with George Rogers, water has always been an integral part of Bellingrath Gardens' history and design. The latest water feature to be installed in the Gardens is a three tiered cast iron fountain donated by Bel Air Mall.

Bellingrath completed the first phase of the project, restoring and installing the fountain in a pool in the center of the Rose Garden. This first phase was made possible by the generous support of The Alabama Power Foundation, The J. L. Bedsole Foundation, The Crampton Trust, The Mary J. Larkins Foundation, The A.S. Mitchell Foundation, Regions Bank and The Sybil Smith Charitable Trust.

 Rose Garden Fountain

Bellingrath celebrated the installation of the fountain with donors, contractors, our Trustees and members of the Belle Camp Society on Sunday, July 25, 2010. Everyone was delighted with the beauty of the fountain and the refreshing sound of water cascading on a hot summer afternoon. Although the fountain has been installed for less than two months, many of our guests feel like it has always been a part of the original garden.

We are continuing our fundraising efforts to completely replace the deteriorated asphalt pathways and edging with St. Joe brick pavers; installation of pathway lighting; enhanced irrigation systems and a complete replanting of the rose garden. We will be sharing more information about how you can help in coming months.
