Growing roses along the Gulf Coast is not for the timid gardener, but the results make the hard work worth the effort.  Over the years, Bellingrath has developed techniques that have proven to produce beautiful roses year after year.  We use organic and inorganic fertilizers usually in March, June and August.  We spray regularly to prevent insects and fungus.  We irrigate daily to keep the root systems cool and prune every year around Valentine's Day.

Walter and Bessie Bellingrath, had a great fondness for roses. In 1936 and with the assistance of George Rogers, they laid out their formal rose garden in the shape of the Rotary emblem.  Mr. Bellingrath was a founding member of the Rotary Club in Mobile.  Their design concept was to have large blocks of roses radiating out from the center of the garden.  The garden features many types of roses but the mainstay of this garden is the Hybrid Tea Rose.

The Bellingrath rose garden was awarded the "Top Public Rose Garden in the United States" in 2004 and 1987 by All-America Rose Selections. Filled with over 75 varieties, the Bellingrath Rose Garden produces colorful blooms from April through late fall.
