Are You Pregnant or Postnatal?

Many personal trainers or classes will proclaim to 'get your body back' or 'boot-camp your postnatal fat away' ... well No More Excuses does all that, but also understands that pregnancy & motherhood affects more than just the scales...
Trainers are experts in core strength restoration, postural assessment & functional exercise before & after childbirth. Add to this focussed goal setting, expert advice on lifestyle changes & personalised nutritional therapy...

Without specialist knowledge of these vital elements of your fitness routine, you cannot hope to achieve your postnatal fitness goals without back ache, fatigue, discomfort or disappointment frustrating your efforts.

But there's more to it that that. There's your self confidence & self image, your mental health, stress & energy levels, eating habits & relationships... The hormonal & emotional roller coaster, the incomprehensible TIREDNESS! The juggling, the worry that you're not 'doing it right'... No wonder you're exhausted!!

No More Excuses understands SPD & back ache; the traumatic births & the 'easy births' (what ARE those by the way?) & how they can affect you both physically & emotionally for months or even years afterwards; postnatal depression or post birth traumatic stress; feeling like everyone else is coping or looking better than you....& I'll bet you've said more than once 'I am shattered, but did I DO all day?'....

At No More Excuses they GET it. They know what you want your body to look & feel like, & absolutely can & will get you there. But they also understand what else you're dealing with. And that makes them different!

Eye Yoga... If It's Good enough For the Olympic Team...!

Britain's Olympic athletes are for the first time getting comprehensive eye training. Until recently the Olympic squad were not even required to have an eye test, let alone eye training. Interestingly, they were required to have a dental check! When the man in charge of the Olympic team's eye care, David Ruston, optometrist from Johnson & Johnson's Vision Care department, first started in the role he said he was shocked to discover the extent of poor eye care in the team.

Kelly Sotherton, Commonwealth heptathlon champion "told us that in javelin (her weakest event) she struggled to focus on its point when throwing." She also had a tendency to clip the hurdles due to not having millimetre-perfect judgement required at peak levels . "Kelly's problem was poor binocular vision".  "Our eyes are meant to work as one, giving us stereoscopic vision, but that doesn't always happen. It's something you're not aware of until you realise how much better things could be."
Just six small muscles control the eye & there are some simple exercises that anyone can do to improve their vision. One is to move your eyes about the room focusing on different objects at different distances, as the eyes need to keep flexing to stay in shape. Another is to look in the mirror & move your head from side to side while looking straight at yourself. To improve peripheral vision, look ahead at something & become aware of whatever is around you.

Greetings!

Welcome to the first online & email newsletter! For those of you who don't recognise the business name, my name is Dawn Symons, you will have either met me at The Hotel Tresanton St Mawes Cornwall or London (Victoria) sessions. Many of you will have recieved this as a forwarded copy from a friend, if that is the case I hope to meet you in person very soon. About me; I have been practising hands-on therapies for over 20 years. Whilst mymain treatment is massage, I am qualified in over 15 further disciplines & so have a considerable 'tool box' from which to produce a bespoke treatment for each client.

I have built an international reputation amongst select clients & have even been described as a 'world-class masseuse'. I am often asked what I would classify myself as, to which I can only reply that I do the best I can to help every individual.... & it seems to work! Regardless of the definition, the proof is in the results, & my treatments have proven over & over to be extremely beneficial, & in many cases curative. My forte is probably in the treatment of back, shoulder, knee & neck issues including migraines.

I have a wide range of treatments available but the most popular is the holistic, the 'Let Dawn do what she thinks you need' treatment!

Although I reside & practice in Cornwall, I also run sessions in central London fortnightly.
New London Venue

I am delighted to share with you the great news that I have found a wonderful new location within 2 minutes walk from Victoria tube station!  As many of you are aware, I wasn't happy with the last venue and found it a little too office-like... that being said it served a purpose. BUT, I have now found a London venue with air conditioning, shower facility, relaxing chairs, ambient music - it's just perfect...!  I AM allowed to use my fantastic oils there and I just know the whole environment is conducive to a totally relaxing experience - there are even reclining chairs to rest in either pre - or post- treatment! (Can you tell how excited I am?!)

I really look forward to welcoming you at: The Dao Spa, 26 Buckingham Palace Rd., Victoria, London, SW1W  0RE.
Eye Yoga

Do you spend your days staring at a computer screen? If you do, you probably know how draining and tiring it can be to your entire body, not just your eyes.

This strains the entire body, including the eyes, leaving people feeling drained even though they haven't physically exerted themselves.  The key to doing these exercises is to relax and empty the mind as if you are meditating.

Improving Visual Concentration.

The first step is to strengthen visual concentration. Sit comfortably with your back and neck straight but not stiff. Start by holding each posture for a few minutes and gradually increase.

Firstly, focus your gaze on the tip of your nose without blinking. Remain like this for as long as you can. Then close your eyes and relax.

Next, focus on your "third eye" (the point between your eye-brows) without blinking.  Then close your eyes and relax. It may feel uncomfortable or hard to do at first, but do not let yourself become frustrated. Keep your focus on that area and with time, you will find this posture easier to do.

Now, without turning your head, focus both eyes on your left shoulder. Remain like this for as long as you can. Then close your eyes and relax. Repeat this sequence with the right shoulder.
When you are finished, place the palms of your hands on your closed eyes and rest for as long as you would like.

TIP

I have recently found a hand held game console which has a programme called 'eye training' it's well worth the money, and anyone with children will probable find there is a console lurking somewhere in the house!

Stress, What Will Help?

So what REALLY will help? Well, I feel that the basics of eating healthily, reducing caffeine and sugar intake, taking time out to relax or exercise, doing something you enjoy every day, spending time with friends/ family and laughter are so simple that we often overlook them. But in my humble experience, I do believe  it is often the simple things in life that are most effective! Maybe getting back to basics will help us take a jump away from the acute symptoms and lead us to feel happier, healthier and more in control.

As the saying goes "what doesn't kill us makes us stronger" When facing major challenges look at them as the chance for personal growth- poor personal choices contribute to a stressful situation- reflect on them and learn from the mistake- we are human after all!!
The following statement gave me something to think about- I thought I'd share it with you:

"Perfectionism is a major source of avoidable stress. Stop setting yourself up for failure by demanding perfection. Set reasonable standards/ goals for yourself (and others), and learn to be satisfied with a job well done"
The Magic of Cranio-Sacral Therapy  - What Can It Do For You?

If you suffer from headaches, migraines, back pain, jaw problems or knee issues (to name but a few) this is almost certainly the treatment for you.

This amazing therapy is so very gentle, the pressure used is 5 grams - the equivalent of the weight of a 20 pence piece, yet is able to unhitch the kinks within the smallest connective tissue (muscles, tendons and 'the skin of the bone'!) on such a minute level results are felt/ seen immediately. The proof of the pudding is in the eating so do watch this space for further testimonials from 'fixed' clients, but one to be going on with:

"I have been treated with both massage & CST from Dawn, & whilst both are extremely effective - the CST is certainly less uncomfortable ;-) while Dawn very gently manipulates (I don't know how, but she does...) your head &/or feet with amazing effects on the rest of your body. It works (I had acute back pain requiring mega doses of painkillers, which simply disappeared after one treatment) & feels gentle & relaxing. Highly recommended for those that don't want to pummeled too hard!"
Wendy, 37

This is good-bye for now... The next newsletter won't reach you for a few months as I have no intention of bombarding you! But, it is my intention to look at posture at work, more stress relief tips, joint health and care, and more feedback from CST treatments. If there are any topics you would like me to cover please do ask!

Kind regards,

Dawn X
