Shaping Racine's Workforce of Tomorrow...Today

Did you know that the students at Mitchell Middle School are working in CAD Programming?  Or that the students at Burlington High School are learning anatomy and physiology from staff at Aurora Health Care?  As employment needs and forecasts of workforce shortages increase for Racine County employers, our business community is looking for more ways to connect with the next generation of our workforce before they enter the workforce. Career Connect will be a tool to help bridge the gap between the business community and Racine County students while they are developing the skills they will carry into their careers. For more information on how your business can utilize Career Connect, please contact John Siegert at John.Siegert@goracine.org.

Unemployment advisory council recommends unemployment legislation, how does this affect Racine Employers?

The Unemployment Insurance Advisory Council voted unanimously to recommend the Wisconsin Wins legislation according to a news release from the Governor's office. Part of this legislation would allow state residents receiving unemployment to take part-time training jobs with employers, potentially leading to full-time employment. Another part of this legislation would also allow current job-seekers to receive training and demonstrate their skills for potential employers. This bill will formally be announced into both houses of the state legislature after allowing time for other legislators to review the bill and sign-on as co-sponsors of the legislation.  As your organization considers hiring new workers, this may provide additional training opportunities for your organization to consider as this legislation moves forward.

National Emergency Grant works for Racine County Employers

"I was excited to learn about the On-The-Job Training funds and how that could help us realize the training we wanted to accomplish to help good people "re-tool" to today's job requirements. The funding made it possible to bring on a good person and implement our training program to train him on job skills he did not have."

- Peter Scherrer, The Peter Scherrer Group

Your organization can also consider utilizing the National Emergency Grant for On-the-Job Training to offset the cost of training a new employee with the skills needed for your open positions. Send an email to Len.Maki@goracine.org and ask how your organization can qualify for reimbursement up to 50%-90% of your new hire's wages during the training period.

 Employer Spotlight

The Racine County Workforce Development Center is in need of updated photos!  We are looking for businesses that would like to "showcase" their organizations in our building.  If you have any photos of your company, employees, or logos that you would like to share, please let us know.  Once your photos are collected, we will customize and frame a digital photo collage.  These frames will then be displayed throughout the Center in our meeting rooms, hallways, and classrooms.  For more information please contact Len Maki at 262-638-6639.

Thank you DeltaHawk Diesel Engines for sharing your photos!
