Workers Available At No Cost Through Grant Program

Racine County has been awarded $560,580 in federal stimulus money.  Through this program, the county will work with private and nonprofit companies to hire people for up to six months. The grant money will allow those people to be paid minimum wage without any cost to YOU, the employer.  Applications from interested employers are due by noon on August 6th.  Applications are available here.
Accessing Capital In Today's Economy

We invite you to attend a Business Finance seminar being presented by Racine County Economic Development Corporation in Racine County on August 5th from 7:30-9:00 a.m.  The topic of the seminar is "Accessing Capital in Today's Economy" and is intended to provide lenders with alternative financing options they could offer their customers and to provide businesses with an overview of the options available.  The Keynote Speaker will be Dennis Winters, State of Wisconsin Dept. of Workforce Development.  This is a great opportunity for you to obtain a brief overview of the programs offered by the above financing partners and address questions you may have.  For more details click here.

Hire Act - Incentive for Hiring Unemployed Workers

Employers who hire unemployed workers this year (after Feb. 3, 2010 and before Jan. 1, 2011) may qualify for a 6.2-percent payroll tax incentive, in effect exempting them from their share of Social Security taxes on wages paid to these workers after March 18, 2010. This reduced tax withholding will have no effect on the employee's future Social Security benefits, and employers would still need to withhold the employee's 6.2-percent share of Social Security taxes, as well as income taxes. The employer and employee's shares of Medicare taxes would also still apply to these wages.  Read more here.

2010 Racine County Grant Progams

County Executive Bill McReynolds announced the availability of grants for local businesses.  Each of the two programs is targeted to small- to medium-sized businesses based in Racine County: one to manufacturing businesses, regardless of ownership and one to minority-owned businesses, regardless of type.  Each program provides grants on a dollar-for-dollar match basis, up to a maximum grant amount of $2,500 per business per year.  McReynolds stated, "Racine County wants to be part of the solution for these firms.  This matching grant program is one example of Racine County's commitment to fostering economic development."  Call your business consultant for more details.
