Scholarship Logo resizeNPG Scholarship Fund Awards $94,000 in Scholarships to 61 Recipients for the 2011 - 2012 Academic Year 
 

The National Propane Gas Foundation Scholarship Fund Aims to foster educational opportunities for the children of National Propane Gas Association (NPGA) member companies by offering scholarships to colleges or vocational/ technical schools. The fund provides nonrenewable scholarships in the amounts of $1,000 - $2,000.

In June, the fund awarded $94,000 in scholarships to 61 individuals for the 2011 - 2012 academic year. The 2012 - 2013 academic yearn online scholarship application is now available on the NPGA website.

KELSEA BATTEFELD - Trinity Industries, Inc.
Battefeld, KelseaKelsea Battefeld is from Meredosia, Illinois. She is a freshman at Illinois College in Jacksonville where she plans to major in psychology. Kelsea was valedictorian and president of her class at Meredosia-Chambersburg High School. Kelsea's father, Brian Battefeld, is an employee of Bader Agricultural Service, Inc.  

 

MEGAN BEAUDRY - Jack Capps
beaudry meganMegan Beaudry is from Albertville, Minnesota. She is a junior at the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minnesota, where she is double majoring in community health and business administration. She was a cross country, basketball, and track athlete all four years at St. Michael-Albertville High School. She has continued a full schedule of activities and volunteer work in college. Megan's father, Dale Beaudry, is a manager of Beaudry Oil & LP Company. 

 

KRISHAN BHAGAT - Georgia Propane Gas Association
Krishan Bhagat is from Fayetteville, Georgia. He is dual-enrolled at Clayton State University and the Georgia Institute of Technology and is majoring in engineering. Krishan ran cross country track all four years of high school and has mentored students in upper level math classes. He is a volunteer at Piedmont Hospital. Krishan's mother, Mina Bhagat, is an accounts administrator for Spalding Gas in Griffin. 
EMILY BROWNSON - Benchmarking Council
Brownson EmilyEmily Brownson is from Sanger, California. She is a sophomore at California State University-Fresno where she is majoring in nursing. Emily was a participant in the Upward Bound Program and graduated from high school a year early. She is an active volunteer in California Health Collaborative Community Health Fairs and Teen Pregnancy Prevention Programs. Emily's father, David Brownson, is a service technician with J. S. West Propane.  

 

NANCY CATES - Georgia Propane Gas Association
Nancy Cates is from Waynesboro, Georgia. She is attending Gardner-Webb University and is majoring in business administration. Nancy was a successful sprinter in high school and runs track for Gardner-Webb. She is a member of Gardner-Webb's Fellowship of Christian Athletes and Honors Society. Nancy's father, Pete Cates, is a co-owner of TruFlame Gas Company in Waynesboro.  
ELLIS CHAPMAN, Jr.- Bob & Linda Mayer
Chapman EllisEllis Chapman, Jr., is from Berryville, Virginia. He is a freshman at Christopher Newport University where he plans to major in biology with the goal of completing postgraduate work in marine science. Ellis has played football since he was in the second grade and is on the football team at Christopher Newport. Ellis' father, Ellis Chapman, Sr., is an employee of Blossman Gas. 

 

STEPHANIE COX - Barbara Clark
Cox StephanieStephanie Cox is from Blanchard, Idaho. She is a sophomore at the University of Idaho were she is majoring in animal science/pre-veterinary science. Stephanie was a distance runner on her high school track team and also played softball. She is a volunteer for the Palouse-Clearwater Environmental Institute and the University of Idaho Polo Team. Stephanie's father, Robert Cox, is an employee of City Service Valcon. 
KARA CRAIG - Mollie Reifschneider/ Elaine Ruhl/ Manchester Tank & Equipment 
Kara CraigKara Craig is from Heltonville, Indiana. She is a junior at the University of Evansville working towards a degree in exercise science with the eventual goal of becoming a physical therapist. She ran cross country and track in high school and is active in intramural sports at the University of Evansville. Among her many community service projects, Kara helped raise funds for the Make a Wish Foundation. Kara's father, Kevin Craig, is employed by Manchester Tank and Equipment.

 

CAITLIN DECKARD - Daniel N. Myers 
Deckard CaitlinCaitlin Deckard is from Sadler, Texas. She is a freshman at the University of Texas at Austin and is enrolled in the prestigious Texas Interdisciplinary Plan Scholars Program. While a student at S & S High School in Sadler, Caitlin was involved with student government, one-act plays, and the cross country team. Caitlin's father, Dennis Deckard, is an employee of Enderby Gas, Inc.  

 

SETH DOEBBELING - James & Elizabeth Bass
Doebbeling SethSeth Doebbeling is from Le Sueur, Minnesota. He is a freshman at Gustavus Adolphus College where he plans to major in engineering. At Le Sueur-Henderson High School, Seth was involved in student council, National Honor Society, football, and track and field. Seth's father, Ken Doebbeling, is an employee of Genesis Coop. 

 

KATIE EIBEN - AmeriGas Propane 
Eiben KatieKatie Eiben is from Monticello, Iowa. She is a freshman at Drake University where she is planning to major in psychology. Katie was involved in many activities at Monticello High School, including soccer, cheer, theater, speech, and 4-H. Katie's father, Ervin Eiben, is an employee of AmeriGas.

 

WENDY FINCHAM - CHS Foundation
Fincham WendyWendy Fincham is from Gordonsville, Virginia. She is attending Piedmont Virginia Community College working towards a degree in nursing. Being a nurse has always been her dream and she has worked as a certified nursing assistant. Wendy's father, Jeffrey Fincham, is a gas service technician with Blossman Gas. 

 

AMY FORE - CHS Foundation
Amy ForeAmy Fore is from Mora, Minnesota. She is a junior at Bemidji State University where she is studying biology with eventual plans to become a physician's assistant. Amy has been on mission trips to rebuild damaged homes in New Orleans and Jamaica. Amy's mother, Jane Skramstad Fore, is secretary/ owner of Town and Country Oil. 

 

ALEXANDER GABRIEL - Milford & Gail Therrell Award
Alexander Gabriel is from Grayling, Michigan. He is a junior at Michigan State University where he is majoring in kinesiology. Alexander is a videographer for the Michigan State football team and is an intern for the university's radio network. Alexander's father, Scott Gabriel, is an employee of Fick and Sons Propane.  

 

TAYLOR GALLARDO - New Jersey Propane Gas Association/ Alvin E. Clayton 
Gallardo Taylor
Taylor Gallardo is from Pittsgrove, New Jersey. He is a sophomore at Ursinus College where he is double majoring in computer science and philosophy. Taylor is an Eagle Scout and is a member of the self-defense club at Ursinus. Taylor's stepfather, Dennis Rambone, is an employee of Matheson Tri-Gas.  

 

LINDSEY GANDER - Missouri Propane Gas Association Challenge Scholarship
Gander LindseyLindsey Gander is from Shelbyville, Missouri. She is a freshman at Moberly Area Community College-Columbia where she is studying graphic arts technology. Lindsey was involved in many activities at North Shelby High School including track and field, Smokebusters, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Future Business Leaders of America, and the Bethel Christian Youth Group. Lindsey's mother, Thalia Gander, is an employee of Heetco. 

 

NICOLE GLOSEMEYER - Missouri Propane Gas Association Challenge Scholarship
Nicole Glosemeyer is from Marthasville, Missouri. She is a sophomore at Chamberlain College of Nursing with the goal of becoming a pediatric nurse. One of Nicole's favorite experiences was attending World Youth Day in Australia in 2008. Nicole's father, Steve Glosemeyer, is an employee of Blue Flame Gas. 

 

MORGAN HARRELL - Trinity Industries, Inc.
Harrell MorganMorgan Harrell is from Springwater, New York. She is a freshman at Binghamton University where she is planning to aim her studies toward a career in history. Morgan was very involved with school clubs and volunteer activities in high school. Morgan's father, David Harrell, is an employee of Valley Fuel. 

 

KELSEY HELMS - North Carolina Propane Gas Association/ Romaine G. Holt 
Helms KelseyKelsey Helms is from Huntersville, North Carolina. She is a freshman at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte where she is majoring in physical therapy. While in high school, Kelsey was president of her class for three years and was on the volleyball and softball teams all four years. Kelsey's mother, Wendy Helms, is an employee of Lake Norman Propane.  

 

ROBERT HELMS IV - John D. Jenkins
Robert HelmsRobert Helms, IV, is from Huntersville, North Carolina. He is attending North Carolina State University where he is majoring in agricultural business management. Robert is an Eagle Scout and is involved in club sports at North Carolina State. Robert's mother, Wendy Helms, is an employee of Lake Norman Propane.  

 

TOREY HUDELSON - Pacific Propane Gas Association
Hudelson ToreyTorey Hudelson is from Troutdale, Oregon. She is a freshman at Concordia University where she is majoring in nursing. Tory was involved in many volunteer activites during high school including Chelsea's Closet which is an organization that helps children who are fighting cancer. Torey's father, Winton Hudelson, is an employee of Ransome Manufacturing/Meeder Equipment. 

 

LANDON ISABELL - Missouri Propane Gas Association
Isabell LandonLandon Isabell is from Columbia, Missouri. He is a freshman at George Fox University in Newburg, Oregon, where he plans to study computer information systems and Spanish. Landon has been a volunteer for numerous community organizations and plans to serve in the Peace Corps after graduating from college. Landon's father, Gregory Isabell, is an employee of MFA Oil's propane division. 

 

COURTNEY JOHNSON - Dynegy, in memory of Elaine Ruhl
Johnson CourtneyCourtney Johnson is from Hill City, Minnesota. She is a sophomore at Itasca Community College and upon completing her associates degree, she plans to attend the University of Minnesota-Duluth to earn a bachelors degree in communications. Courtney has been a 4-H member for over eleven years and has had several community service opportunities with 4-H. Courtney's stepfather, William Becker, is an employee of Federated Coops, Inc. 

 

MELISSA JOHNSON - Robert Olson
Melissa Johnson is from Clarksville, Iowa. She is a freshman at Hawkeye Community College where she is studying diagnostic medical sonography. In addition to participating in three sports at Clarksville High School, Melissa was also heavily involved in 4-H, serving as president, vice president, secretary/treasurer, and historian. Melissa's father, Jim Johnson, is an employee of Allison Propane Gas.  
GREG KAJEWSKI - Dynegy, in memory of Elaine Ruhl
Kajewski GregGreg Kajewski is from Oelwein, Iowa. He is a senior at the University of Northern Iowa where he is double majoring in accounting and management information systems. Greg is very active in community service including Habitat for Humanity, and enjoys biking, boating and other sports. Greg's father, William Kajewski, is an employee of Dealers LP Equipment.  
ALYSSA KEELING - Ancient Gassers, Inc.
Alyssa KeelingAlyssa Keeling is from Veedersburg, Indiana. She is a senior at Taylor University where she is studying film production. She is a producer for Taylor University's in-house production company, Envision Productions and has served as a film and video editor. Alyssa's father, Doug Keeling, is an employee of Overpeck Gas Company. 

 

ANDREA KIEHL - Suburban Propane
Andrea KiehlAndrea Kiehl is from Ford City, Pennsylvania. She is a sophomore at Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP) where she is majoring in English and art history. Andrea is involved with student government at IUP and was an Alternative Spring Break volunteer during her freshman year. Andrea's father, Robert Kiehl, is an employee of Suburban Propane. 

 

KATHRYN KOHL - Missouri Propane Gas Association Pinnacle 
Kohl KathrynKathryn Kohl is from Kansas City, Missouri. She is a freshman at Metropolitan Community College where she is majoring in physical therapy. Kathryn was an active athlete at Park Hill High School and served as captain of the softball team her senior year. Kathryn's stepfather, Monty Moore, is an employee of Ferrellgas. 

 

MORGAN KRATZ - Trinity Industries, Inc. 
Morgan Kratz is from Souderton, Pennsylvania. She is a freshman at Eastern Mennonite University where she is considering majoring in social work. After graduating from high school, Morgan spent ten months as a volunteer with the Mennonite Mission Network helping disadvantaged citizens. Morgan's father, Marice Kratz, is an employee of Penn Valley Gas.  

 

LINDSEY LENSER - Ancient Gassers, Inc./ Butane Propane News
Lenser LindseyLindsey Lenser is from Superior, Wisconsin. She is a sophomore at the University of Wisconsin-Superior, where she plans to major in business administration with a focus on marketing. Lindsey was an active member of the Future Business Leaders of America and participated in theater productions at Spooner High School. Lindsey's mother, Joan Lenser, is an employee of WK Appliance and Propane Company.  

 

ASHLEY LOSING - Carl and Cheryl Hughes Family Foundation
Losing AshleyAshley Losing is from Alpena, South Dakota. She is a junior at South Dakota State University and is majoring in pharmacy. In addition to a multitude of extracurricular activities, Ashley was valedictorian of her high school class at Wessington Springs High School. Ashley's mother, DeVonne Losing, is an employee of Alpena Coop Service. 

 

SHANNON MADSEN - Sam & Ann McTier
Madsen ShannonShannon Madsen is from Harvard, Illinois. She is a freshman at Judson University where she plans to major in secondary education. Shannon was heavily involved in student government, sports, church activities, and 4-H while attending Alden-Hebron High School. Shannon's father, Andrew Madsen, is an employee of Country Gas Co., Inc./ Inergy.

 

MATTHEW MALO - Propane Marketers Association of Kansas/ Beth Johnson Memorial
Malo MatthewMatthew Malo is from Newton, Kansas. He is a sophomore at Hesston College where he is majoring in early childhood education and child and family studies. Matthew was active in many school and church activities while in high school and is active in intramural sports at Hesston. Matthew's father, Kevin Malo, is an employee of Propane Central.  

 

JOSIE McCRACKEN - Missouri Propane Gas Association Pinnacle
Josie McCrakenJosie McCracken is from Ewing, Missouri. She is a senior at Pittsburg State University in Pittsburg, Kansas, where she is majoring in physical therapy. Josie was an athlete in high school, ran track at Pittsburg State, and is a member of Pitt State Students for Life. Josie's father, Kevin McCracken, is an employee of Heetco. 

 

LEIGH MORSON - Mississippi Propane Gas Association Courtney Blossman
Leigh MorsonLeigh Morson is from Clarksdale, Mississippi. She is a sophomore at Mississippi College where she is majoring in biology with the eventual goal of becoming a dermatologist who specializes in skin cancer treatment. Leigh is a volunteer tutor for the Mission First after school program for inner city students. Leigh's father, John Morson, is an employee of Morson and Windham Oil Company. 

 

TUCKER MUNRO - Bertelsmeyer
Tucker Munro is from Exeter, New Hampshire. He is a sophomore at the University of New Hampshire where he is majoring in nutrition. Tucker played basketball all four years at Exeter Regional High School and was a volunteer youth league basketball coach. Tucker's father, David Munro, is an employee of Heritage Propane.  

 

ANGELA MURPHY - Williams Energy
Murphy AngelaAngela Murphy is from Grass Valley, California. She is a freshman at Sierra College where she is majoring in sports medicine. Angela is a cancer survivor and participates in Relay for Life and gives talks to community, church, and school groups on her experiences fighting cancer. She is on the water polo and swim teams at Sierra. Angela's father, John Murphy, is an employee of AmeriGas.

 

MIKAYLA PARDON - James & Elizabeth Bass
Pardon MikaylaMikayla Pardon is from Imlay City, Michigan. She is a junior at Grand Valley State University where she is majoring in integrated science with a minor in elementary education. Mikayla is active in Students for Life and peer ministry at Grand Valley. Mikayla's mother, Dawn Pardon, is a employee of Al Parsch Oil and Propane Company. 
OLIVIA RAMEY - Mississippi Propane Gas Association
Ramey OliviaOlivia Ramey is from Tupelo, Mississippi. She is a junior at Mississippi State University where she is majoring in kinesiology and sports pedagogy. Olivia hopes to eventually earn a masters degree in psychology and continue her athletic career as a teacher and coach. Olivia's father, Terry Ramey, is an employee of Loden Propane Gas. 

 

BRITTANY REES - New Jersey Propane Gas Association/ Alvin E. Clayton
Brittany Rees is from Sparta, New Jersey. She is a freshman at Kent State University in Kent, Ohio. Brittany has been a Girl Scout for twelve years and has participated in many community service events. She was a cellist in her high school orchestra and was a member of many clubs. Brittany's mother, Jacqueline Rees, is an employee of Suburban Propane.  

 

AMANDA ROBERTS - Propane Marketers Association of Kansas/ Beth Johnson Memorial  
Amanda RobertsAmanda Roberts is from Emporia, Kansas. She is a senior at the University of Kansas where she is majoring in journalism and minoring in art history. Amanda is the assistant director of the Kansas Scholastic Press Association and Kansas Journalism Institute. Amanda's stepfather, Larry Mechtley, is an employee of S&S Oil and Propane Company, Inc. 
CORTNEY ROBERTSON- AmeriGas Propane
Cortney Robertson is from Pine Bluffs, Wyoming. She is a freshman at the University of Wyoming where she plans to major in business administration with  a goal of becoming a family law attorney. At Pine Bluffs High School, Cortney participated in Future Business Leaders of America, student council, mentor program, volleyball, basketball, and track and field. Cortney's father, Gary Robertson, is an employee of AmeriGas-Wyco LP Gas.

 

DANAE SANCHEZ - CHS Propane
Danae Sanchez is from Victorville, California. She is a freshman at Victor Valley College where she plans to major in child development with the eventual goal of becoming an elementary school teacher. Danae enjoys writing and performing music. She is the first member of her family to attend college. Danae's mother, Diane Sanchez, is an employee of Proflame Gas Company. 

 

AUSTIN SAUPE - Jim Bertelsmeyer
Austin SaupeAustin Saupe is from Laurel, Florida. He is a sophomore at the State College of Florida and plans to become a nurse or nurse practitioner. Austin's Eagle Scout project was to build an aviary at a wildlife center to house injured birds and other animals. Austin was president of the Political Science and History Club during his freshman year at SCF. Austin's grandmother, Kittie Long, is an employee of Calkins LP Gas Company. 

 

ANNA SCHOONOVER - Missouri Propane Gas Association Legacy
Anna SchoonoverAnna Schoonover is from Mound City, Missouri. She is a senior at Northwest Missouri State University (NMSU) where she is majoring in business management and marketing. Anna is an active member of the Baptist Student Union at NMSU, singing on the worship team and leading a Bible study group. Anna's parents, Bryce and Patty Schoonover, own and operate Schoonover Oil Company. 

 

LAURA SCHOONOVER- Missouri Propane Gas Assoc.
Laura SchoonoverLaura Schoonover is from Mound City, Missouri. She is a sophomore at Northwest Missouri State University (NMSU) and is majoring in merchandising textiles, apparel and furnishings. Laura graduated first in her class from Mound City R-2 High School, and along with her sister Anna, is active in the Baptist Student Union at NMSU. Laura's parents, Bryce and Patty Schoonover, own and operate Schoonover Oil Company.  

 

KAITLYN SEABOLT - Georgia Propane Gas Association
Kaitlyn Seabolt is from Blairsville, Georgia. She is a freshman at North Georgia College and State University. Kaitlyn was an active athlete during her years at Union County High School and will be a member of the softball team at North Georgia. Kaitlyn's father, David Seabolt, is a service technician for Heritage Propane in Blairsville.
ZACHARY SIEN - Missouri Propane Gas Association Horizon Scholarship
Sien ZacharyZachary Sien is from Lebanon, Missouri. He is a senior at Cox College where he is majoring in Radiology. Zachary was the executive president of the student council at Lebanon Senior High School, where he also played basketball and ran cross country track. Zachary's father, Gary Sien, is an employee of Titan Propane.
MATTHEW SMITH - AmeriGas Propane
Smith MatthewMatthew Smith is from East Hazel Crest, Illinois. He is a junior at Olivet Nazarene University and is studying mechanical engineering with a minor in mathematics. Matthew was salutatorian and male scholar athlete of the year for his high school class. He is president of Olivet Nazarene University's volleyball club. Matthew's mother, Nancy Smith, is a an employee of AmeriGas.
RACHEL SMITH - AmeriGas Propane
Rachel SmithRachel Smith is from East Hazel Crest, Illinois. She is a senior at Taylor University and is studying elementary education. Rachel is a freshman orientation leader at Taylor and is currently student teaching. She was a multi-sport athlete in high school and is active in many intramural sports at Taylor. Rachel's mother, Nancy Smith, is a employee of AmeriGas.

 

HEATHER STAFFORD - Heritage Propane 
Stafford HeatherHeather Stafford is from Whitleyville, Tennessee. She is a senior at Tennessee Technological University where she is majoring in nursing. In high school, Heather volunteered at nursing homes with her church youth group. Now she is a certified nursing assistant and works at nursing homes between semesters at Tennessee Tech. Heather's mother, Tammy Stafford, is an employee of Cumberland LP Gas/ Heritage Propane.  

 

ALYSSA SWANSON - Illinois Propane Gas Association
Alyssa SwansonAlyssa Swanson is from LaHarpe, Illinois. She is a senior at Western Illinois University where she is majoring in accounting. Alyssa helped rebuild homes in New Orleans following Hurricane Katrina. She is a member of the Sigma Iota Epsilon National Business Honor Society at Western Illinois. Alyssa's mother, Denise Swanson, is a bookkeeper for MPC Energy.  

 

ALICIA UMLAND - Maurice Deal

Alicia Umland is from Jansen, Nebraska. She is a sophomore at Peru State College where she majoring in elementary and special education. Alicia is very active in her county's Farm Safety 4 Kids program and is a campus ambassador at Peru State. Alicia's father, Matthew Umland, is an employee of Farmers Cooperative.

Underwood DorothyDorothy Underwood is from Otego, New York. She is a junior at Rensselear Polytechnic Institute where she is majoring in architecture. Dorothy ran cross country all four years of high school and is an active community volunteer. Dorothy's father, Scott Underwood, is an employee of Suburban Propane.

Jake WaddellJake Waddell is from Kahoka, Missouri. He is a freshman at the Missouri University of Science and Technology where he is majoring in explosives engineering. He was involved with Key Club, National Honor Society, and Student Council at Clark County R-1 High School, and is an avid sports fan. Jake's father, John Waddell, is an employee of Heetco.

Weichman PaigePaige Wiechman is from Fremont, Ohio. She is a freshman at the University of Maine at Machias were she is studying environmental science. Paige loves outdoor activities and is on the cross country team at the University of Maine at Machias. Paige's mother, KayAnn Wiechman, is an employee of O. E. Meyer Company. 

 

JILL WEITGENANT - Young Gassers
Jill WeitgenantJill Weitgenant is from Hills, Minnesota. She is a junior at Northwestern College in Orange City, Minnesota, and is majoring in mathematics education. She is well on her way to achieving her life-long goal of becoming a teacher. Jill's father, Ned Wietgenant, is a bobtail driver and technician for Popkes Oil and Propane Company.

Anna WilliamsAnna Williams is from Newton, Mississippi. She is a senior at Mississippi State University-Meridian Campus where she is working on a degree in elementary education. Anna was a cheerleader in high school and college. Anna's father, Virgil Williams, is an employee of Blossman Gas.

CODY WILSON - Young Gassers
Wilson CodyCody Wilson is from Marion, Illinois. He is a freshman in the honors program at Southern Illinois University where he is double majoring in accounting and computer engineering. He served as state treasurer of the Illinois Future Business Leaders of America during his senior year of high school. Cody's mother, Becky Wilson, is an employee of Ferrellgas.

Enjoy the sunset as you sail aboard the Key West Fury catamaran in the waters off Key West on Sunday, January 29, 2012. The Fury has indoor and outdoor seating for your comfort. Champagne, wine, beer, and soft drinks are included in your registration fee. While liquor is not available aboard the Fury, you may bring your own. Feel free to bring along a picnic basket or any other snack items you wish. Your cruise ticket also includes round-trip transportation from the Marriott Key West Beachside to our boarding location, the Conch Republic Seafood Company, and back. We will depart from the hotel at approximately 5pm and will return by 8pm. Cancellations for the Scholarship Sunset Cruise must be submitted by January 20, 2012 to receive a refund.
