Summer Break... we are almost there! We know you have many things to "tidy" up and complete but somehow knowing it will soon come to a close offers that glimmer of hope and excitement. We trust your plans for the summer will give you rest and renewal.
Every year at this time I get a little melancholy. I look forward to a slower pace. (I know that is hard for some of you to believe!) I also reflect, with mixed emotions, on another year passing as my own children grow. How fast life is... in the blink of an eye they will be grown and gone on with their own independent lives. I just want to say, "Stop! Hold everything! I want to enjoy this time a little longer." Some of you may feel the same way as you watch your own children and students move on to the next grade, another school, or even college.
I sometimes struggle with wondering if I might have been able to better influence those around me. Life can be stressful. Parenting can be stressful. Teaching can be stressful! I would like to share this article with you that reminds me that there is only so much I can do to encourage and influence my children, then I need to let go, let God, and trust that what I model in my own life will speak louder than my words of instruction.
Enjoy!
Although children are not 100% of the population, they are 100% of the future. You are shaping our future. |
Reflections of a Parent -Author Unknown
I gave you life, but cannot live it for you. I can teach you things, but I cannot make you learn. I can give you directions, but I cannot be there to lead you. I can allow freedom, but I cannot account for it. I can teach you right from wrong, but I cannot always decide for you. I can buy you beautiful clothes, but I cannot make you beautiful inside. I can offer you advice, but I cannot accept it for you. I can give you love, but I cannot force it upon you. I can teach you to share, but I cannot make you unselfish. I can teach you respect, but I cannot force you to show honor. I can advise you about friends, but cannot choose them for you. I can advise you about sex, but I cannot keep you pure. I can tell you the facts of life, but I can't build your reputation. I can tell you about drink, but I can't say "no" for you. I can warn you about drugs, but I can't prevent you from using them. I can tell you about lofty goals, but I can't achieve them for you. I can teach you about kindness, but can't force you to be gracious. I can teach and guide and support you... but it is your life to grab the reins and ride forth into your own destiny.
