Nothing Works Without "Empathy"

Nothing Works Without "Empathy".

One of the foundational skills we talk about with Love and LogicŪ is "empathy". Understanding your personality will help you determine how easy administering "a strong dose of empathy" will be.

My D/I style has a challenge with empathy vs. sarcasm.
Empathetic statements like: "What a bummer", "That's got to be frustrating", "Bless your heart", "Thanks for sharing", "That's an opinion", can at times come out a little sarcastic.

As we share Love and LogicŪ skills, and role play with the group, I have found that I am not alone with this challenge. I would like to share another little tip that has helped me over the years with my "foot in mouth" disease, the "Holy Pause", think before you speak. When we get caught up in the emotion of a situation, and feel we need to make a point, we need to "pause" and think about how the words will be received.

When we respond to our students, non-verbal body language accounts for 58% of our message, tone accounts for 35% of the message. Actual words account for only 7%!

Without "empathy" we incite a defensive response.  Remember when connecting, communicating and building relationships with your students, nothing works without "empathy".

Friends,

We would like to thank all of you for welcoming Mark and I to your schools and conferences. We have invited all to receive our "no-cost" Newsletter Monthly via email. Many have chosen to receive it. We have had a technical challenge for the last two months as our webmaster has taken ill. We are back on track and hope you will forgive the delay. Our goal is to share tips and insights that will make a difference in your day and your life both professionally as well as personally.

We welcome your questions, feedback, and suggestions on our newsletters. We hope you have a blessed month.

Sincerely,

Karen Wagnon
