A way to honor the Hahns
On the evening of Sept. 16, St. Thomas will host a Festive Choral Evensong to honor the ministry of the Very Rev. Dr. Doug Hahn and Kaye Hahn. This will be their last service at St. Thomas. A reception will follow in the Parish Hall. Please click here to view the invitation. St. Thomas members are asked to bring their favorite hors d'oeuvres on a pretty serving dish. Prep work will be needed the afternoon of the event. Call Ann Johnston at 706-442-2233 if you can help. All are welcome!
A word about the way forward
We are now in a time of transition, and we want you to know that you are in good hands. Wardens David Brandenburgh and Neal Fenter are meeting this week with Canon Rick Callaway of the Diocese, so that together they will find St. Thomas an Interim Rector and prepare the way for a search process. We will keep you fully informed of this process.
As Bishop Neil Alexander said recently, St. Thomas is a healthy vibrant and desirable place to serve. They are in good shape for the future.

Time to jam: Columbus Jazz Societyjazz
The Columbus Jazz Society continues its great evening of jazz: a free concert from 6-9 p.m. on Sept. 9. We are happy to have our new home at St. Thomas. All Saints Hall provides the best listening experience for jazz music. The CJS will be sponsoring The Maneuver Center of Excellence Jazz Band under the direction of SFC William Baez.
This is a free concert open to all who wish to get an idea of what jazz music is all about. The concert this month will be held outside on the property of St. Thomas providing the weather is nice. "Barbeque & Beer" concessions will be available by Country's Barbeque. Bring the whole family, lawn chairs, picnic foods, and relax to the great sounds of jazz!
The Columbus Jazz Society holds a concert and jam session the second Sunday of every month from 6-9 p.m. at St. Thomas.

A farewell and thanks to Brantley Lewis
Last Sunday, we gave thanks for the good work that Brantley Boyd Lewis has done as our director of youth activities.  She has given three very good years to our youth and is now passing the baton on to a yet-unnamed successor.

Brantley has led the youth in confirmation training, taken acolytes to festivals in Washington and Atlanta, and youth retreats. Under her leadership, the youth have been active helpers in numerous children's events, from Vacation Bible School to TAP. She has also encouraged them to participate in events beyond the parish - convocational and diocesan events, Infusion, and Kids For Peace.

Beyond all of this, she has been a steady pastoral presence with our young people, aware of and responsive to the changes and challenges in their lives. She has not done this alone, but has recruited a fine team of adults to work with her. Learn more by checking out the St. Thomas youth page on our Web Site.

Brantley will still be with us as a parishioner.  She will also be continuing her other "ministry" as a well regarded and publicly awarded social studies teacher at Shaw High School.
For her service to Christ for her care of our youth, let us all say together.
Thanks Be to God!

PS.  The Vestry Children/Youth commission - Joe Mills, Malinda Shamburger, and Julia Slater, along with youth workers Perrin Nicolson and Travis Wade, and Mo. Lorna and Fr. Doug are currently working on a job description for the Youth Ministry position.  If you know of someone who would like to know more about this, please contact the parish office, and the information will be passed to the appropriate persons.

The Very Rev. Douglas Hahn, D. Min.

begins first week with tour

On Sundays we will be asking "What Makes Us St. Thomas?" Last week, Mother Lorna Erixson kicked off the series with a tour of the facilities, to include lesser-known areas like the sacristy and flower room. Join us each Sunday at 9:30 a.m. as we explore our identity as a people of God. We will start with the space in which we worship and enjoy fellowship together. We will explore those places seldom seen but vital to the work of the parish. Come join us as we embark on this journey of exploring our communal identity.

Wednesday evenings will find us studying the topic of "Prophets and Politics: Then and Now." We will examine the Old Testament prophets and the prophets of today and try to discover what they may have to say to us as we prepare to cast our votes in November.

phone New phone set-up
As some of you may have noticed, the phone systems at St. Thomas have been updated. When you call, you will be greeted by a message. To get through to the office, just press 2 and we'll answer! This change was implemented to reduce the volume of calls coming through intended for the Wynnton Neighborhood Network, and allows us in the office to use our time to better serve the parish. Thank you for understanding.
