Music In the Mountains:

A Summer Worship Event

From Organist and Choirmaster, Rick McKnight:

Musicians from the Episcopal Church have been gathering for 62 years at The University of the South in Sewanee, Tennessee for the purpose of continuing education, fellowship, and inspiring worship. I first attended this conference in 1970 when I was a student and taking organ lessons from Tommy Orr at Trinity Episcopal Church.  The next time I attended was in 2007. Quite a break, eh? Why go?  Sewanee always attracts a knowledgeable faculty - leaders in the field of church music. It's a chance for me to sing in a choir, a choir of about 150 singers. Most of the singers are music directors and/or organists in their home churches, and most are, like me, part time.  Read more...

penniesSpeaking of money ...
Wilson Ford is conducting a "Pennies for V.I.P." project during the month of July. In order to assist the V.I.P. program and help the families involved, we ask that you drop your pennies in the coffee cans in the Narthex and in All Saints Hall. At the end of the month the pennies will be given to Malinda Shamburger who will donate them to V.I.P. , a local ministry for homeless families. St. Thomas is one of the host congregations.

Volunteers needed!

St. Thomas' week to host VIP is August 5 - August 12. We need people to spend the night Monday, Wednesday or Friday and prepare meals on those days in addition to lunch on Sunday Aug 12. We are also in desperate need of someone willing to move the VIP trailer to the next church. Contact Malinda Shamburger for more information.

Read! McMichael to keynote kickoff
Retired local TV newsman Dick McMichael will speak at the  kick-off for St. Thomas Readers Book Group. The event follows supper at approximately 6:35 p.m. on Aug. 15 and will be in the parish library. All are welcome.
McMicheal is the author of "The Newsman," his memoir.  It is available at all Columbus area public libraries, and
may also be ordered through Exlibris.com on a print-on-demand basis. However, copies are no longer available through local book stores. The book is an excellent read.
McMichael will speak on many of the events of his life and career.
