| Stewardship Campaign to Support St. Thomas Mission and Ministries in 2012

Dear Friends,
I want to invite you to join us in support of the Mission and Ministry of St. Thomas Episcopal Church. The generosity of faithful members of the parish supports our worship, community outreach, Christian education, Christian fellowship, and mutual support. The faithful members of our parish link hands to teach our children, care for our neighbors, and reach out in concrete acts of love to the world beyond Hilton Avenue. We are partners with God and with one another in this work. I would like you to be a partner with us. If you have not been a pledging member of St. Thomas, I invite you to join us in the joy of giving. Your pledge is considered an estimate of giving, and it can be adjusted at any point in the year. Quarterly statements of the status of your giving will be sent to you for your records.
Please visit our website to read about some of the work of St. Thomas. On our website, you can also use the online pledge form to pledge your ongoing commitment to this work. Just click on the STEWARDSHIP tab on the lefthand column of our website (www.stthomascolumbus.org).
Thank you for your prayerful consideration of stewardship.
Christ's Peace,
Fr. Doug Hahn |
| St. Thomas to Celebrate All Saints' Day Service on November 6

All Saints' Day is a special day when we acknowledge parishioners who have died in the past year. It is a meaningful and memorable date upon which to dedicate Altar Flowers in memory of a friend or loved one who has died. Parishioners are invited to dedicate Altar Flowers in memory of any person, and these names will be placed in the Order of Service. The special dedication price is $25 (four names maximum per dedication).
+ All Saints' Day is also an opportunity to celebrate Baptism. Please contact the church office if you or your child is ready to receive the life-giving waters of Baptism.
+ All Saints' Day is also a special occasion for the Episcokids. The children of St. Thomas Episcopal Church will enjoy participating in an All Saints' Procession, and the Children's Choir will perform. Please continue reading this e-newsletter to find more Episcokids announcements. |

| Episcokids Update!

Our Sunday School classes (9:15 - 10:15) are geared up and ready for your kids to come and participate! Our teachers have been working very hard to prepare exciting activities for your children. We are digging deep into the Old Testament, studying important people like Abraham, Sarah, Jacob, and more. I know the Sunday School hour comes fast on a Sunday morning, but it is worth it for your children to be there and to support our volunteer teachers. Upcoming topics include: Joseph, Gideon, Samson, David, Jeremiah, and Jonah. Don'y miss a single minute!

Loving Home Needed for Rick Sendelbach's Cat
Many St. Thomas parishioners remember the late Rick Sendelbach. Before Rick died, he asked that I find loving homes for his cats. It was his only request. We found a loving home for one, and now we need a good home for the other, Rascal (pictured). Rascal is currently alone at Rick's house, being fed and cared for by a neighbor until the right person takes him home. Rascal is three years old, and very friendly. He loves affection and will greet you at the door. He is neutered, litterbox trained, and current on all tests and shots. The neighbor, Lori, can be reached at 706-358-7156. If you are interested, Lori is available to bring Rascal to meet you! Thank you for considering this act of kindness and compassion!

The Wynnton Neighborhood Network Needs Your Help!
The Wynnton Neighborhood Network (WNN) is a multi-denominational ministry that operates a food bank and outreach center for those in need in the Wynnton Road area of Columbus. Each month, local congregations take turns supporting WNN with their donations.

This is a crucial month, as WNN is preparing for Thanksgiving, when it will experience its highest traffic of the year within a two-day rush! The following food items are needed in anticipation of approximately 225 visitors during Thanksgiving:
canned green beans boxed macaroni and cheese
boxed stuffing mix
boxed cornbread mix
canned yams
canned pumpkin pie filling
OR a simple donation of $25!
Checks may be made payable to Wynnton Neighborhood Network. Thank you for your continued generosity in supporting WNN! |
St. Thomas Choir to Sell Poinsettias as Fundraiser - In Time for Christmas!
The St. Thomas Choir will be selling festive poinsettias as part of its fund-raising campaign to sponsor a Choir Trip to New York City. Choir members will be in the Narthex after church this Sunday to take your orders. Poinsettias will be $15 each, and the Choir will retain 40% of the profits as funds for the Choir Trip. Please support this great cause, and you will enjoy your home filled with fresh, colorful poinsettias at Christmas! They also make great gifts!
The colors for sale are red, white, pink, marble, and "novelty" (red with white splatters!). Each poinsettia is grown in a 6-inch pot, and will measure approximately 15 inches tall by 15 inches across when it arrives. Each plant will arrive wrapped in a decorative pot cover and protected by a florist shipping sleeve. Poinsettias ordered will arrive at St. Thomas between November 28 and December 9. Checks can be made payable to St. Thomas Episcopal Church and marked "poinsettia".

The St. Thomas Readers Book Discussion Group
The St. Thomas Readers Book Discussion Group will meet in the Parlor on Tuesday, November 1, at 5:30 pm. The book we are discussing is The Invisible Wall by Harry Bernstein, a memoir of his childhood in a Manchester, England, neighborhood where Jews lived on one side of the street, Gentiles on the other. This remarkable book was written when the author was ninety six years old---and he wrote three more books after that! The Invisible Wall is available in paperback, and there are copies in the public library system, including a large-print copy at North Columbus Branch Library. All are welcome to attend the discussion. For more information, please contact Sonya Boyd at 706-563-6161 or janjulau@aol.com. |
