St. Thomas Legacy Society to Name Charter Members
The St. Thomas Legacy Society is made up of individuals who have made St. Thomas a beneficiary in their financial estate planning. Their generosity makes the St. Thomas Endowments possible, and means a perpetual source of revenue for the Mission and Ministry of the parish.
The Vestry wants to help celebrate this generosity and witness by recognizing Legacy Society Charter Members. These are people who have made provisions for the parish in their financial planning, and who are willing for their names to be made public. We celebrate those of you who have made these arrangements anonymously, but we encourage you to let us publicize your names. What a great witness this is to your fellow parishioners!
We are very pleased that we now have 11 persons whom we know are Legacy Society Charter Members (including the three names we have published earlier). Beginning on Memorial Day Weekend (Sunday, May 29) through All Saints' Sunday (November 4), we will gather the names of Charter Members, and publish these periodically. In November we will honor these names with a plaque and a celebration.
We invite you to be part of the future Mission and Ministry of the parish in this way. If you have questions about this process, please contact Mr. Travis Wade (706-327-2432), Mr. John Partin (706-563-3206), or Fr. Douglas Hahn (706-324-4264) to discuss the Legacy society. Thank you.

Summer Choir, and Other News from the Music Department
+ The Music Department is taking requests! Like to sing your favorite hymn? Contact me and I'll work it in this summer. Just e-mail me at music@stthomascolumbus.org.
+ This Sunday at the offertory we will sing a hymn written by our own Ray Capo. He has been involved in writing poems to set to music for several years now. We have sung several before, and we congratulate him on this talent and interest.
+ SUMMER CHOIR begins Sunday, June 5. St. Thomas Choir is off for the summer months, but that doesn't mean we can't or won't have music. Do you like to sing? Would you like to see a very different perspective from the choir loft? Join us for SUMMER CHOIR at 9:50 a.m. on summer Sunday mornings. Come to the Choir Room, located behind the altar, the farthest left rear room in the church. It is identified with a sign that says "Choir Room." We'll use 30 minutes to rehearse the hymns, with the goal of providing musical leadership for the service. If we have enough participants, we may even sing a simple anthem. All participants are welcome: young, old, family, friends, or visitors. I guarantee you will enjoy the experience. I hope to see many of you beginning Sunday, June 5!

Composer Dedicates New Music to St. Thomas Choir
St. Thomas Choir has a personal relationship with the British composer Philip Wilby (pictured). When the Choir toured England in 2009, Prof. Wilby hosted a workshop for the Choir, and conducted his music at Evensong. Since that time, we have commissioned his "Prayer of St. Thomas" (text from the Collect for St. Thomas' Day), and "Vox Christi" (based on the Great Commandment). "Vox Christi" has been published by the Royal School of Church Music, and has just been recorded by the Choir of Wells Cathedral and featured on BBC Radio 3. Click here, then scroll down slightly to listen to the mp3. St. Thomas Choir will perform the U.S. premiere of "Vox Christi" in the fall.

Summer Fellowship Announcements
+ Wednesday, June 1 - The Parish Life Committee invites you to gather at a local family-friendly restaurant for a meal "out-on-the-town"! This special opportunity for fellowship will recur on the first Wednesday night of each month during the summer, including June 1, July 6, and August 3. We will announce reminders and information for each dinner date as it draws closer.
+ Saints and Sinners will NOT meet during the summer. Please correct your calendars, as this cancels the June 3, July 1, and August 5 meetings. |
