Congrats!

Congratulations to Dr. Martin and Rev. Sandra McCann on the birth of their first grandchild, Richard Briggs Freeman, son of Berry and Catherine Freeman. "Briggs" was born at 1:50 p.m. on March 21, weighing 8lbs 3oz, and 20.5 inches long. Both mother and baby are doing well!

Episcopal Relief for Japan

 Japan

Episcopal Relief & Development is sending support to the Nippon Sei Ko Kei (the Anglican Communion in Japan) to help with its initial emergency relief efforts in response to the 9.0-magnitude earthquake and resulting tsunami that struck Japan March 11. "We are standing by the church in Japan during this difficult time," said Nagulan Nesiah, program officer for Episcopal Relief & Development. "As you can imagine, the needs are overwhelming, and it will take time to assess the best ways to support the church and Japan as they move toward recovery." Support the Wynnton Neighborhood Network

  Food Drive

Time is running out! Although you may extend your generous spirit through Lent, we encourage you to donate to WNN during March! March is St. Thomas' designated month to donate food and other necessary items to the Wynnton Neighborhood Network (WNN). Parishioners can pick up an empty bag in the Narthex to fill with these items, or can purchase a pre-filled bag for $15.00. Please make checks payable to Wynnton Neighborhood Network.

During February 2011, WNN assisted 176 families, containing 369 individuals, which included 144 children. WNN also distributed 636 bags of food, and provided utility assistance to 41 families in the amount of $1,584.87. Your continued support is needed!

The St. Thomas Readers Book Discussion Group will meet in the Parlor on Tuesday, March 29, at 5:30 p.m. This month we will be discussing The Poet of Tolstoy Park by Sonny Brewer, a novel based on the life of professor and philosopher Henry Stuart. His inspiring story is a good read for Lent, or for any time. At the time of this writing, we are attempting to arrange a conference call with the author (an Episcopalian) who has strong connections to the real life Henry Stuart. The Poet of Tolstoy Park is available in local book stores, through online outlets, and at the Columbus Public Library (cassette, CD, or print). For further information about the March discussion or about the book group, contact Sonya Boyd at 706-563-6161 or janjulau@aol.com. All are welcome!

Get Connected: We Are Up-dating Our Directory!

Phone

St. Thomas is up-dating our parish directory! We need your submissions of the following:

#1: Contact information that has changed

#2: Contact information of new members (welcome!)

#3: Digital photos

We are compiling this information for both our printed directory and our online, pictorial directory (located at http://www.stthomascolumbus.org/home.html). Our directories are a valuable form of social networking among our parishioners, like many forms of social networking you already enjoy at home or on your computer. For example, for a quick and easy digital photo submission, just send us your Facebook profile pic! Thank you!

How Can You Contribute to a

Beautiful Easter Sunday?

  Flowr

As we approach the Easter season, we would like to remind our parishioners that our flower budget is funded 100% by donations. The Flower Guild has plans to make our Easter flowers very special. You can make a special Easter dedication in memory or in honor of a loved one or friend for a suggested $25 donation which will be listed in the order of service on Easter Day. Please call, mail, or e-mail your dedication to the church office. There are also envelopes available in the pews that can be dropped in the offering plate. The deadline to receive donations for Easter is April 19, and any amount is appreciated.

Although we buy at wholesale, prices are quite high for flowers. The Flower Guild continues to be good stewards of your donations by caring for and reusing flowers around the church whenever this is feasible. We appreciate your help in making it a glorious Easter season. Thank you!

Donate Candy for Children's Easter Egg Hunt!

 Candy

As we prayerfully enter into Lent, we are also looking ahead to celebrate Easter morning, which is on April 24 this year. Traditionally, on that morning, we invite the children of the parish and their families to participate in an Easter Egg Hunt during the Sunday School hour. For each child participating, we like to have at least a dozen eggs stuffed with pre-wrapped candy by Sunday, April 17. Bins for these will be located in All Saints' Hall or in the Christian Education Office. We have lots of empty eggs from last year, so if church members would like to donate pre-wrapped candy, it would be greatly appreciated!
