Newsletter Editor - Ed Greetings!

It's amazing how fast time seems to fly..... Here we are in a New Year !!

Special thank you to everyone on the entertainment team, board and volunteers. You did a great job in organizing the New Year's Eve - GaGa Glam party. No wonder it was a sell-out even before New Years Eve !!

You guys put alot of unpaid time into organizing, cleaning & polishing the floors until the wee hours of the morning leading up to the party. Not may people realize all the hard work that goes on behind the scene's for the Club. Without all of you it would not have been such a fun night !!
However, no matter how hard you try, there will be complainers. For some, it's far to easy to just sit back and complain about someone or why this or why that wasn't done. Rather than just be a negative person or complain, volunteer to do some decorating or picking up the supplies. Don't just leave it up to a handful of people to do everything!! Have your say and contribute rather than just be a complainer. Ok, rant complete...

AMAZING NEWS !!!!

"Ask Savanaugh.... She'll Have Somethin to Say!"

Ever watched Savanaugh perform or heard her wisdom during mike time at Club 717 and thought to yourself.... "there's one smart broad".    Ever thought to yourself while Savanaugh is pulling a chicken leg out of her twat... "I wonder what her views are on the Middle East?"  While Savanaugh is cussing up a storm, dispelling all of her deep words of wisdom on the topic of going down on a chick, have you ever wished she had words of wisdom for you?  I thought so..... exactly what you have thought during a sophisticated evening with Savanaugh!

Well you need not worry anymore!   Savanaugh has all of the answers to life's pondering questions and moral dilemmas.  There isn't a topic she won't generously share her wisdom.  Cutting right through all of the bullshit, Savanaugh is now willing to share her worldly and insightful advice for all.  Crude, brash, crass, it will all be there so ask.  Have those lingering meaning of like questions... ask away.   Need  domestic engineering advice... she's your girl.   Need to ditch that lover boring you to death in bed... she knows how.   Having relationship issues, she'll get right in the bed with the two of ya!   Ever wonder how Savanaugh keeps her youthful and fresh appearance... ask away (shutup!)  Have income tax questions... get a fucking accountant!

All you need to do is email Savanaugh at:  Savanaugh@club717.ca and answers will be provided anonymously in the following newsletter.

Ask away - IF YOU DARE!!!!!
A message from Queen Ineeda Tips

Dear Club 717;

Wow!!! Can you believe that a year has come and gone? I sure can't. I has

Ineeda Tips Davenport

Queen of Club 717

been over a year since I have started doing Drag as well and I think I somewhat have come a long way since I have started. The first time I ever saw a drag show was when Farra N' Height was performing at our club and I can say I was really shocked to see someone so talented do something like that. And that is what had really inspired me to do such a thing. As the

year has passed I can say that I have learned several things from several people and I am glad to have met those people in my life, and we have been great friends since.

December has been a busy month and I can say it was tough but we got through it all together. Our first fundraiser that we had, I had the privilege to perform with Candice and Michelle Duberry. What amazing performers they are and I am glad that I can call them friends. We were able to raise 210 dollars that night for the show! Thank you to the both of you for taking time out of your schedules to come and be apart of a wonderful fundraiser.

The following week we had Savanaugh's Politically Incorrect Christmas and all I can say is WOW!!! Awesome show and it was really Naughty!!!  The Question that I ask myself is where does she come up with all this stuff?? I just have a funny feeling that next year is going to far worse. Will she push the envelope even farther?? I hope so.

On December 17th, we were able to have our second annual fundraiser and I just want to take the time to thank the performers for coming out and sharing this experience with me. To Candice, Benn Dover, Madge, Alex Xander, Pat Mycrotch, Ivy, and Phil Mycrakin. I would like to thank you all for being apart of the fundraiser and for being here to support me in the things that I do. In total, we were able to raise 1060 dollars for both charities and those charities were the Simcoe Settlement Hall and the Denise House. Thank you to all of those who gave toys and food, and for those who bought tickets to raise the money for both charities. We all really appreciate it!!

Christmas Eve was a blast. Spending some time with friends and family at the club the night before Christmas was fantastic. We all had a blast. There was eggnog and treats and everything there.

Celebrating and Bringing in the new year of 2011, we should be able to celebrate with friends, family, fiancés, and more, and hopefully to bring into the new year a positive attitude and a positive change for many things.  This years theme was Gaga Glam and what a blast!! I can say I had fun with lots of friends and there was so much stuff to do. Lots of Dancing!!! Way to go to the board with an awesome Theme for this year.

My Goal for 2011, is to bring you all Good Entertainment and to let you all

be awed. I hope that I will be able to fulfill this goal and I hope as Queen that I will do you all proud!!

I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and a Happy New Years.

As of January, the first show will be my birthday show, and I have the privilege of sharing my special day with an awesome Queen from Toronto,

Farra N Height. We both hope to see you all out to celebrate with both of us and to have a blast!!! Hope to see you all then!!

The following weeks after my birthday show will be the shows as followed:

January 14th - Twiggy and Ivy's Extravaganza with Special Guests

January 21st - Candice with Nikki Chin and Katherine Dior

January 28th - Benn Dover with Dusty and Donnatella

Hope you will all enjoy the New Year and we as Kings and Queens hope to

make your year filled with lots of fun and love. We will try to bring new performers in from all over and hopefully we will have success and be able

to aww the crowd.

Love you All
Your Queen

Making Cents, Make Sense - by Kristin
 Kristin Parker - Mortgage Specialist

Hello Club 717,

Lock in or stay variable?

The best way to answer this question is to consider the following; what are your mortgage goals? (i.e. the desire to pay it off as fast as possible) What is your risk tolerance? How comfortable are you with your mortgage payments fluctuating? Historically, people with variable rate mortgages pay off their mortgage faster due to a larger portion of their payments going towards their principle mortgage balance. There can be a difference of $10k or more compared to a fixed rate mortgage at the end of a 5 year term knocking years off your mortgage life cycle.  But how would you feel about your mortgage payment increasing by a possible $100 or $200?  Sometimes it's not always about the rate or the speed to which your mortgage is repaid, but more about making comfortable consistent payments in accordance to your lifestyle.  To learn more, or for assistance in determining what the best decision is for you, please contact your trusted mortgage consultant or myself for more information...

There will be no monthly Fundraiser Dance at Club 717.  Look for us to return starting in February.

On Saturday January 8th, the first DMAN (Durham Men's Active Network) 'Men's Night Out' will take place here at ACDR.  This event is open to all gay, bi and MSM in the region.   We'll be enjoying a Potluck supper starting at 5 p.m. and then watch the film, "Private Dicks".   This film features men from all walks of life both straight and gay, many who appear nude, talking about their penises.  Their discussion is open, honest and sometimes humorous.   So bring a dish (if you can) and join us from 5-7p.m. for the first 'Men's Night Out' and join DMAN, membership is FREE!  Please email me at M2M@aidsdurham.com or phone me at: 905-576-1445 to RSVP.

Keep a watch out for our new 'Libido Insurance' ad campaign starting after the Holidays.  This ad campaign takes a fun look at condom use as being insurance against HIV and STI's, by taking a twist on some 'real' insurance company ad campaigns.   There are many ways to protect yourself and your sexual partners against HIV and STI's, but condoms should still be on hand as your most effective 'insurance'.  The AIDS Committee of Durham Region is here to provide you with all the information you need, as well as condoms and safer sex kits that will provide you with the COVERAGE you need.  For a sneak preview, you can view the first campaign poster which is posted on the west side of our building (facing the Centre Street Parking Garage) on Prince Street.

If you missed our Christmas Show and Dance on Saturday November 20th you missed a great evening.  You'll not want to miss our next show and dance on Saturday February 5th, 2011.  This will be our Valentine's Show and Dance.   So start planning on attending with your sweetie or meeting your next sweetie now and you'll also be helping a great cause by supporting the AIDS Committee of Durham Region.   The cover charge will be $7 with door prizes, raffle and more.  Watch for more details coming in January.

Starting in January we'll be setting a few dates to hand out 'safer sex kits' at UOIT/Durham College during the evening.  The dates and times will be posted via Squirt.org, so if you're at or going to be on the campus, be sure to watch for those Squirt.org postings in January on the message boards under 'Cruising' in Oshawa.   You can stop by and get your kit and we'll answer any questions if you have them.

As we end 2010, let me thank everyone in the community for supporting the AIDS Committee of Durham Region this past year.    The Durham community has really come together in supporting us and we very much appreciate that support.   I'd like to give 'special thanks' to Club 717, Glenda, Dusty, Donatella, Chardonnay, Ivanna and Antoine at Pink Pages for their time and efforts in helping us raise funds.

In closing, let me wish everyone a happy and joyous Holiday season and lets all look forward to an even better year in 2011.

JANUARY  IN  THE  GARDEN

If your garden is anything like mine, there is not much to do, but look out the window or take a walk in the backyard to scoop up the dog poop; or fill your bird feeder, or take a walk out to your compost bin that is really starting  to fill up, as the temps are too cold for decomposition to take place.  Or maybe you might sit on the garden bench to contemplate where you might move that shrub next spring or add some new plantings to hide that compost heap that you could not see in the summer, but now it is an eyesore.  Or you never had a vegetable garden last year and you are pondering a place to put one this year.  Perhaps it is time to add some roses, or peonies, or hydrangeas, to the garden.  Or perhaps you look around your garden and realize that now that winter is here, your garden is totally flat and without any winter interest.  Then you should contemplate adding some evergreens, dwarf or tall, as they stay all year round.  My cedar hedge, although browny-green right now, still gives me the privacy and home for the birds.  Now that the pond is frozen, I see dog tracks all over the pond.  The garden is really pretty when we get fresh snow. because it blankets the shrubs, the hedge, the birdbath, the pond, the railings on the deck, and it hides the dog poop.

The point I am trying to make, is that this is a great time to evaluate your garden.  Does it meet your needs?  Does it please you in all seasons?  Do you already have plans for a new deck, new walkway, gazebo, a raised rose garden, a butterfly garden, a new statue of Zeus or David?, a new whatever????    January is the month to start going on the internet, go to the library, haul out those garden books and magazines, and how to books about building stuff in the garden.  Research and plan for the things that you want to do this spring to make your garden more useable and likeable for you.

In the back of garden magazines, or in any current issue, there will be adds, or pull out cards to mail away for garden seed and plant catalogues.  These catalogues are another source of information.  They usually tell you how and where to grow the plants you are interested in.  They tell you how tall, how much sun, how much water and how well they winter, etc.  So you learn as you shop.  Even if you do not shop from these catalogues, they can provide the info you need to go shopping at garden centres in the spring.

If you are truly interested in gardening, You could join the Oshawa Garden Club, which meets monthly and has guest speakers to talk about special gardens  and   plants.  They sometimes have video information.  If you are more selective, in plants, there are Rock garden societies, Peony Societies, Indoor Plant Societies, etc.  If you search for them you will find them.  Joining a Garden Club puts you in touch with other people with your shared interest, and people who are just starting out to those who have a lot of experience and knowledge.  So if you like being more social, that may be the route to go.

And if you really want to be doing something now, you can purchase an   amaryllis bulb, narcissus bulbs. and start forcing them into bloom in your home.  I remember as a kid, when my mother discarded the carrot top, I would collect a couple of them, and put them in a saucer of water, and watch them sprout a new green top.  And after I had them for more than a couple of weeks they would start to smell and she would throw them out.  So I just started the whole process over again.

So a very Happy New Year to One and All.  And if you have any garden questions please send them along!!

Till next time,

Charlie

Something to Say - by Savanaugh

It is the New Year and I'm going to say it like it is... same old, same old.  You know what I'm talking about.  Indulged too much at Christmas, over-indulged again New Year's Eve, made stupid resolutions and broke them by dinner time New Years day.  Somewhere along the path, many of us have lost our way.  Found ourselves spending hours upon hours in shopping malls trying to scoop up more deals during Boxing Week.  How insane have we become?  We already spend thousands of dollars leading up to Christmas, opened a ton of crap on Christmas day and there we are... getting our spending fix the immediate day afterwards.  It really is an illness.

Then reality will hit... fuck, I've spent way too much money.  Fuck, credit cards are maxed out.  Fuck,  I've gained 10 pounds.  Fuck, my liver is shot.  Fuck, I'm still kinda miserable!   Easy solution - eat more, drink more and spend more!  Lets indulge ourselves into oblivion!

Working with some very disadvantaged at-risk youth has really kept me grounded.  Behaviour issues increased as the holiday approached, but not for the reasons you might think.  They were not excited about the approaching festivities but rather worried about not having the same, quiet place to attend every day, where would they eat their meals and what were they going to do with themselves for two weeks off.

As we over-indulged and attempt to fill pathetic voids in our lives through eating, drinking and shopping, let us not lose sight of the reality that our over-indulgence would be somebody else' basic needs.  To spend $100.00 dollars on a meal at a fancy restaurant is a month's worth of groceries for some.    I know, I know - you work hard and are entitled.   I know, I know - you gave to the Salvation Army greeter at the malls leading up to Christmas.

True charity and caring needs to extend far beyond the holiday season.  I'm sure your guilt has been relieved enough to make it through your two weeks of over-indulgence and partying.  What now?   What will you do for the remainder of the year?

Remember that void many of us are trying to fulfill -  the true reason why we find the need to over-indulge in food, drink and for some, sex.   Dig deep and many will realize that they are all desperate attempts to fill that void deep within us.  As we begin our New Year, I challenge everyone to really reflect on what is important.  Re-focus your energies towards the positive.  I have always been a firm believer in the old saying "what goes around, comes around"   This does not just apply to negativity however.  Put out the positive energy, do good things for the pure sake of doing so, truly look after those around you (both stranger, family and foe).  Do these things and be prepared for a couple of things to happen in return.  For one, you will feel a sense of purpose, focus and value.  Secondly, the world will suddenly seem to give back to you.  What you put out there, you will get in return.

An open heart and generous spirit needs to continue way past the strike of midnight on New Year's.  People are hungry all year round.  People are homeless all year round - not just at Christmas.  We are about to head into the couple of months with the highest depression and suicide rate of the entire year.  Be "present" and continue doing your part to make the lives of others just a little better.

I wish a New Year filled with inner-peace, companionship and love for those who look for purpose and meaning to their lives.  For everyone else... life can be a bitch!

There ya have it... something to say!

Savanaugh had somethign to say!

So how are you enjoying your new Android Phone ?

Security researchers say they have discovered a new Trojan horse program that targets mobile phones running Google's Android operating system that may be the first to attempt to create a so-called 'botnet' of infected mobile devices.

The new malware, dubbed "Geinimi" raises the bar on mobile malware, according to a post on the blog of mobile phone security firm Lookout Security. The malware, which has not been detected outside of China, is being packaged with repackaged versions of popular Android applications and pushed through unregulated, third party application exchanges, Lookout said.

Among the legitimate applications that have been modified to carry the Geinimi Trojan are Monkey Jump 2, Sex Positions, President vs. Aliens, City Defense and Baseball Superstars 2010, according to Lookout. Versions of those applications offered through Google's Android marketplace are safe, Lookout claims. Only versions available through unaffiliated Chinese application exchanges have been found to be infected. To read the full article... Click here.
