New Panties
A frustrated wife buys a pair of crotchless panties in an attempt to spice up her dead sex-life. She puts them on, together with a short skirt and sits on the sofa opposite her husband. At strategic moments she uncrosses her legs ... enough times that her husband finally asks, "Are you wearing crotchless panties?"
"Y-e-s," she answers with a seductive smile.
"Thank God - I thought you were sitting on the cat."
He never heard the gunshot.

5 Ways to secure your wireless connection
Wireless networks can be even less secure than wired networks because anyone who has the most basic knowledge of wireless at his disposal can tap into virtually any network within range
Even if you are a technotard or politically corectlly, have little technical knowledge, you can secure your wireless with these 5 tips.
1). Secure your access point administration interface: The default password of most standard devices are already know to most hackers. So, when you set up your router through the web interace, change the default password and write it down somewhere safe.
2). Stop broadcasting your SSID: Your wireless router continously transmits your SSID (Service Set Identifier). While this is useful in an office where many people are going to connext to your network, at home this is certainly not needed. Turn SSID transmission off as soon as you can. Wireless LAN "sniffers" will still be able to detect your network, but other than that, your network will mostly be shrouded from outsiders.
3). Use MAC address filtering: Turn on MAC address filtering on your wireless router configuration utility. By doing so, you can add the MAC addresses of all your networking devices to the address pool of the router. This way, no one outside your home network will be able to access your network.
4). Reduce the power of transmission: Reduce the power of your wirless router to such a degree that the signal does not reach the outside of your home. This will keep most outsiders at bay.
5). Disable remote administration tool: your remote administration utility is seldom used. So, keeping it on exposed your network to outsiders. Turn it off for enhanced network security. |

Hey there everyone,
Sorry that I have not had anything in the last couple of newsletters but life has been very busy for me around the club... First of all, a great big WAY TO GO to the Pride Durham team!!!! They gave us an amazing time with a great attendance and there was alot of great comments from alot of people. I can not wait to see what next year brings to our little pride that has had the chance to grow and bloom!!! Then we had to jump right into Pride Toronto with our float entry. Man I thought we were never going to get it done in time...I was still adding the finishing touches when they were telling us that we had to move--- gee talk about cutting it close. I must send out a hugs and a THANK YOU to Andy and Jay for building the float and bringing Benn's vision to life. With out you guys there would have been no float. Again thank you. Amanda I must say thank you to for painting the float and having fun with us. You made us laugh but girl you are good with a roller. Dan thank you for coming and helping us too we did have alot of laughs out back of the club....... Now we have Club 717's got talent preparations underway. Contest is starting up on Sept. 12th and it is going to be fun again....the judges have been selected and the themes have been picked and now we need you to enter!!! A Message from King Benn Dover
PHEW!!!! Well the busy season is finally over at the Club.......for now! It has been a hectic few months but things are settling down now. First and foremost, I want to thank everyone for your love, support and kind words when Amanda had her heart attack! It was a huge shock but you all made it a little easier. We are truly blessed to have such an amazing group of friends!!! We sometimes lose sight of what is important in life and it takes something like this to point us back in the right direction. The little things, petty arguments and minor tiffs no longer seem like such an issue when you face something like this. I now know what it means to take time to smell the roses......Amanda is doing well and with her newly self appointed "Heart Supervisor" Danny, will continue on the road to recovery!! Thanks to everyone!!!!! Toronto Pride was amazing!!!! Despite some minor set backs, we managed to pull it off!!!! There are many people to thank and if I miss anyone, I apologize (been a stressful month ). Andy and Jay..........what can I say!?! If it had not been for you we never would have had a float!! You guys built a float that Club 717 can be proud of!!! Donny, Amanda and Dan... you all showed up and helped where ever you were needed, whether it was painting, holding boards or getting coffee. Thanks!! Thank you to John for getting and driving the truck that pulled our float!!! Thank You! Mike and your sound team...You guys did an amazing job with the music! Everyone who showed up to help set up the float in Toronto and walked with the float..Thanks!! Garret, thanks for transforming Kyra into Boy George at the last minute!! The Performers who stuck it out in the incredible heat were all troopers!! Queen Candice, Queen Mom Ruby, Kelly (who by the way was a HOT Madonna), Cathy and Kyra who stepped in at the last minute to be on the float at her first ever Pride.......You all looked great!!! Everyone who came out to our shows and have supported us all year with fundraisers, 50/50 draws and raffles and the performers who donated the amazing gift baskets we raffled off.....THANK YOU!!! And finally to Donny who was there the entire time and made sure we had everything we needed. You helped us to make our vision a reality. It was exactly what we wanted!!! Thank You!!!
If I have missed anyone, I sincerely apologize. Your help was greatly appreciated!!! I had an amazing day and hope you all enjoyed this years Pride!!! THANK YOU TO EVERYONE FOR ALL YOUR SUPPORT!!! It is very much appreciated!!! With Pride, King Benn Dover

A message from Queen Candice
Hi there everyone!
Well it's that time of the month again for another report from myself to you. Pride weekend kicked off at our Club 717 on Friday, with an amazing show, where we had the privilege to flaunt our creative costumes that we wore on our float in Toronto's Pride parade to our fabulous audience. The costumes looked even better on the float in the parade. It was a beautiful hot and sunny day, but we got through it all with fun and creativity. It was an amazing honor to share that float with, what I like to call more than just friends, but my family of Club 717. Also, I feel like I should point this out, I feel that Ruby and I in the blistering heat and exhaustion of that parade, we got to bond more than ever before. Not only is Ruby a great gal to work with, the rest of the crew went above and beyond to make this Pride a Fantabulous Pride.
This past month we had a great, fun, and successful time together. However, there was one time where we all took a step back and had to collect our thoughts. It seemed like the hot weather got to one of our family members, Amanda, and she was admitted to the hospital. We were, and still are, relieved that she has recovered beautifully. I had the honor of stepping in for Benn on the Friday show so he could go and take care of his loving wife. I hope the tips that you, Club 717, donated to me that I handed over to Benn and Amanda including my show fee were helpful even a little bit. It is really nice to see that the patrons of Club 717 take care of each other, like it should be. We were also blessed with Amanda's presence the following Friday at the show which I got to be one of Glenda's guests.
Here's an announcement that I would like to throw out there. Nikki Chin and myself put on a fundraising show for TICOT and our charity of choice this year, PWA (People With Aids food for life program) every Tuesday at Crews and Tangos. Both Nikki and myself cordially invite you to come out and support your King Ben Dover and Queen Candice of Club 717 at Crews & Tangos on Tuesday August 3rd from 9-11:30 and then join Nikki Chin and a special guest from Club 717 on Tuesday August. 10th from 9-11:30. All Tips are donated to the charity, plus we have a toonie Tuesday special, with a shooter that is only $2 and those proceeds go towards the charity as well.
All my love Your Queen of Club 717 Candice

Making Cents, Make Sense - by Kristin
Hello Club 717,
As expected, the Bank of Canada has increased the overnight lending rate (prime) to 3/4 per cent with many questioning why this move was made when we are noticeably in a slowing market and with countries around us still in crisis ... In response, the BoC cites employment growth and target inflation rates being key factors in their decision... To read the full press release, please click on the following link: http://www.bankofcanada.ca/en/fixed-dates/2010/rate_200710.html
Even though this increase seems discouraging, one must remember that money still remains at an all time low in terms of interest rates. Fixed rates are in the low 4% range (5 year term) and those with a variable rate mortgage are still enjoying deep discounted rates around 2%. Either way, the less interest you pay, the sooner you own your home. If you or anyone you know would like to discuss this further please contact your trusted mortgage agent or myself. Enjoy the rest of your summer!!!

AIDS Committee of Durahm Region Message
One Of The Side Effects Of Living -Aging We will all be elderly one day, even those young hot guys with their sexy washboard stomachs. Our elderly citizens face many challenges and those who are members of the LGBTQ community face even more. Our aging LGBTQ population is often being forced back into the 'closet' as there are very few services for LGBTQ seniors.
While some LGBTQ retirement centres and homes have opened in recent years, there are far too few and often filled before they even open their doors. Most of these centres and homes are located in major urban areas like Los Angeles, Boston and Vancouver. There are some LGBTQ 'friendly' retirement centres and homes, but again they are few and mostly in urban centres like Toronto or Ottawa. So, most aging LGBTQ seniors are forced to live in centres and homes that do recognize that they exist. Many seniors who 'came out' after the Stonewall rebellion are finding themselves being forced back into the 'closet' just to survive. I've heard a number of disturbing stories about LGBTQ seniors being asked by nursing home/health care staff to 'pray with them' for forgiveness; or persons who were so terrorized by their 'straight' peers that they fell into severe depression and even to suicide. Sadly, there is very little discussion about this situation. Many LGBTQ seniors are the folks who set the ground work for the 'progress and increasing freedom' our community enjoys today. It is a disgrace that these folks who in many cases acted as 'pioneers' in the gay liberation movement are being forgotten and pushed back into the 'mental (and sometimes physical) death' of the closet. We must all join together to help them, as well as, ourselves as we all head towards our senior years. We need to educate health care providers and givers across Ontario (and nationally) so at the very least they will be aware that there are LGBTQ seniors who face issues that are unique to this population. With an awareness of LGBTQ seniors, then providers can begin looking at what policies, procedures and best-practices they have in place or need to develop within their services to better serve LGBTQ seniors. On Friday October 29th, 2010 we hope to start the process of discussion and education with our 'Senior Queer Citizen's Conference'. This full day conference will start with the new documentary film, "Gen Silent" which was produced and directed by Stu Maddux. Mr. Maddux has documented the lives of a number of aging LGBTQ citizens bringing forth the disturbing realities they have had to face with the current deficiency in LGBTQ awareness and services. This is a powerful film and one I think all LGBTQ people should watch. Some clips of this film can be seen at: www.gensilent.com. After the film, we will have an LGBTQ senior's workshop lead by Devan Nambiar of Rainbow Health Ontario. This workshop will deal with some of the issues an aging LGBTQ population is facing. The session covers a bit of history, LGBT language/terminology, impact of criminalization and oppression, health disparities, senior trans needs, providing culturally competent care for LGBT senior (and racialized LGBT seniors) as well as a few case scenarios. A Lunch and Learn panel consisting of a Lesbian, a Transgendered woman and an HIV+ gay man will discuss their issues and concerns as they enter their senior years. During the afternoon Dick Moore, former leader of the Senior Pride Network at Toronto's 519 Community Centre will discuss his long-term care manual which will be followed up by what is happening around LGBTQ senior issues provincially and then ending with open discussion. Breakfast, the Film, Lunch with Panel, as well as workshops and presentations are included in the $45 registration. There are a limited number of scholarships available for 'People Living with HIV' and members of the AIDS Committee of Durham Region can attend the conference for $30. ACDR annual memberships are available for $10 at our offices. The deadline for registration is September 20, 2010.
We invite everyone from across the province that has an interest in aging LGBTQ issues. Whether you're an LGBTQ community member, a health care provider, government official, student or a senior yourself this conference should be on your 'must attend' list.

Stress-Free Holidays for You and Your Pets
You've planned your holiday but there is only one thing left to decide, who is going to look after your pets. Do you ask a neighbour, ask family and friends or hire a professional? There are several things to consider when choosing someone to look after your furry family? The first and most important, is do your pets like them? Are they happy to see them or do they run and hide. You want them to be as happy and healthy as possible while you are away.
How responsible are they? Will they keep your pet's routines or will they show up whenever it is convenient for them? Pets hate change. Finally, what would happen if your pet bites someone or worse, if they escape from home and are hit by a car? If you have friends or a neighbour looking after them, you will be responsible for all the costs and your home insurance could increase. By hiring a professional, you have someone who is bondable, carries commercial liability insurance and you sign a contract. They will follow your rules and keep your pet's routines. They will ensure that both you and your pets have a stress-free holiday. So for peace of mind, consider hiring a pet professional. Aren't your pets worth the investment? I'm looking forward to hearing from you. This column is all about you and your pets.
Sincerely,
Corry Hamilton

Got Plant Issues? - by Charlie
AUGUST IN THE GARDEN We are fortunate this year that we are getting rain on a timely basis which has made the garden less demading for water. BUT: You still need to water and fertilize those hanging baskets and pots of plants to keep them looking and growing strong. Order or at least think about planting some spring bulbs now. Tulips, daffodils, crocus, hyacinth, scilla, etc. If you are mulching your garden, it could probably use a touchup, by keeping it 3 or 4 inches thick it suppresses weeds and keeps moisture in. Keep deadheading and harvesting. Pick herbs for fresh use and for drying or freezing. Harvesting will keep them growing.Cut back the foliage on any perennials that have finished flowering and are looking tired. They will regrow and maybe even flower again. Plant trees, shrubs and perennials now and keep them well watered so that they make new roots before winter sets in. Prune summer flowering shrubs as the flowers fade. They will be more shapely and vigourous for next years flowers. Edge your garden beds. By putting a clean crisp edge on the garden, it makes it look great and keeps the grass from creeping into the beds. Take pictures of garden. Mid August is when most gardens are at their peak. Take pictures of container combinations that you would like to repeat. Yours or your neighbours!! This is a good time to start dividing perennials. Either spread them through your garden or perhaps swap them with neighbours and friends. Mid August to mid September is a good time to overseed your lawn. As the night temperatures start to cool, grass starts to grow more vigorously again. And there is time for the seed to sprout and put down some good roots before winter arrives. And the most important thing to do, is sit back and enjoy your garden. You've worked hard to create your EDEN, so enjoy!! But it is also a time to criticize and analyze your garden. Is it everything you want it to be? What changes could you make for next year to make it even better? Oh the possiblities!! Where are the magazines?? What does my neighbour have in that hanging basket? I have no colour in my garden in August-----what will I do? Actually if you go to a good garden centre each month or twice per month, you will see what is in flower at that time; be it a tree, shrub, perennial or annual. Anyways, enjoy the rest of the summer, pop open a cool one and relax. You've earned it. Till next time IN THE GARDEN,
Charlie
