How we're spending our Summer break: Lighthouse!

School may be out for the next 4 weeks, but Lighthouse is going strong all Summer!  For those of you who don't know, Lighthouse is a new youth church and Bible study we started back in January.  Today, 50-70 kids in grades K-8 come out each Sunday to share a meal together, play games, build relationships, and participate in Bible study.

Fireman Dyland and two students at Lighthouse

Lighthouse has been a great opportunity for students to learn more about God's love for them and to reach out to others in the community.  To this end, roughly half the meeting is comprised of students who attend other local schools and not Harambee!

Currently, we're wrapping up our first study in the Gospel of Mark.  In this study, students have learned about who Jesus is and his awesome plan for their lives.

There are many ways YOU can get involved in Lighthouse!  We are on the look out for mentors and meal providers.

If you're interested in getting involved with Lighthouse, please contact Michael Larson at larsonm@urbanconcern.org or by calling (614) 291-0885.

The Columbus Foundation Continues Support of After School Program

Did you know that the After School Program, one of Urban Concern's very first programs, is still running strong today?

Up to 80 students meet after school Monday through Friday in an safe and enriching environment to work on homework, participate in fun extra curricular activities, and build strong relationships.

In a community with high crime, poverty, teen pregnancy rates, and schools in "Academic Emergency", the After School Program strives to provide a positive alternative.  This vital program would not be possible without the support of committed local foundations, like The Columbus Foundation.

Many thanks go to Neva J. Collins and Robert A. Ramsey funds of The Columbus Foundation for their invaluable support of Urban Concern's long standing After School Program.
