James Brown Resigns from Urban Concern

jamesWe regret to announce that James Brown has submitted his resignation as Leadership Development Director for Urban Concern.  As one of the original co-leaders of the South Linden Bible Study, James was instrumental in helping Urban Concern get off the ground in 1989.  He grew up in the housing project formerly known as Windsor Terrace.  Over the years, he served in various leadership roles at UC.

In 1997 he returned to South Linden with his wife, Tonette, and their family.  Together they have served sacrificially by mentoring, helping youth and adults grow spiritually, organizing summer camps & special holiday events, mobilizing volunteers to renovate housing, and teaching Bible studies.  James played an important role in fundraising for the Harambee Community Center.

James' gifted preaching and teaching inspired many people to give back to their community. He collaborated on developing the course "Basic Christianity from an Urban Perspective."  He also developed and taught a Cultural Training class to help Urban Concern staff & volunteers understand how to build healthy relationships in the community.

In 1999, the Columbus Metropolitan Church Council presented its Living Faith Award to James for his commitment to serve the neighborhood where he grew up.

"It's been a joy to be a part of something so God centered and transformational for my community," said James.  "I'm so thankful that God gave me the opportunity to work with such a wonderful team of people."

Dave Glover, Executive Director, said the Urban Concern Board will begin the search process for a new Leadership Development Director.

"We are so grateful for James' years of service to the church and the people of South Linden.  He has demonstrated a deep love for the community and for sharing the life transforming power of the Gospel," said Glover.  "We look forward to James' continuing contribution to the South Linden community."

As of January 15th, Mr. Brown may be reached at
