Compassionate Christmas Gift Ideas from Harambee Imports

Harambee Imports Inc. is a project at Harambee Christian School that teaches real world economics to fourth and fifth graders.

Imports1The student-run business imports, markets and sells products from the Community Based Rehabilitation Project in Thailand and the sales benefit poor families living there.

Harambee Imports products make great Christmas gifts!  Some of the products sold include handbags, greeting cards and bookmarks made by impoverished mothers of disabled children in Thailand.  Sales benefits these mothers who would normally be required to work in rice fields away from their children.

Last year Harambee Imports added a new item to their product list -- coffee imported from Ethiopia.  See a video of some of our students hard at work:   http://urbanconcern.blogspot.com/2008/12/harambee-imports.html

Imports2Students manage all aspects of the business, including logistics, accounting, marketing and sales.  They earn Bling (a form of currency used in the Harambee School economy) that they may use to purchase items in the School store.

On Sunday, December 13, students from Harambee Christian School will be selling items during morning services at Xenos Christian Fellowship's main campus, 1390 Community Park Drive, Columbus.

By integrating economic concepts into the life of the students at Harambee, they are learning personal responsibility, financial skills, entrepreneurship and most importantly, compassion.
