6 New Requirements for Tax Exempt Hospitals |
A section of the healthcare reform law, the Affordable Care Act, raises standards for charity care, financial assistance and meeting community needs for non-profit hospitals receiving tax-exemptions. While some of these provisions went into effect immediately, the Internal Revenue Service still needs to issue regulations for this section of the law. Families Unprepared for Impact of Critical Illness |
Two recent MetLife companion studies found that experiencing a critical illness, such as cancer, a heart attack or stroke, can reduce a family's income by more than $12,000 in the first year alone - even with medical coverage in place - primarily due to the inability to work. In addition, these families experience out-of-pocket medical costs of about $3,000 in the first year after diagnosis. Yet nearly half (46%) of full-time working Americans have less than $5,000 in savings available.

LIMRA: Individual Life Insurance Falls to 50 Year Low |
Despite the fact that most American families have less to fall back on financially than when the economic downturn began, ownership of individual life insurance has hit a 50-year low, according to a new LIMRA study.
