The second of four Urbana sculpture installations!


Installation Celebration of "Prism Arc VI" The City of Urbana invites the public to attend a ribbon cutting and dedication of the sculpture entitled, Prism Arc VI, on Friday. Prism Arc VI is the second of four sculptures to be installed in Urbana this spring for a two-year placement. Carl Billingsley, sculptor and Professor of Sculpture at East Carolina University, will be installing the piece on the northeast corner of Philo Road and Colorado Avenue in Urbana as part of the Philo Road Beautification Plan and the Urbana Sculpture Project.  The public is invited to meet the artist and learn more about the piece on site.

Tsigoti and Tree Thump Tsigoti, a collaborative and improvisational avant-punk band dedicated to expressing their opposition of war, authoritarian regimes, and violent religious extremes. Tree Thump is an East Central Illinois based band performing didjeridu driven music with a penetrating, psychedelic vibe and funky drum and bass grooves, topped off with sweet and fiery explorations on the electric violin, accented with percussive mayhem.

Downtown Plan Update
The City of Urbana is embarking upon an update of its Downtown Strategic Plan. The process kicks off with a Visioning Workshop on May 12th. The current Downtown Strategic Plan was adopted in 2002. Over the next few months the City will be working with stakeholders and the public at large to create a vision statement, goals and strategies to improve Downtown Urbana.  There will be plenty of opportunities for input, including town hall meetings and an online survey. Please join us in creating a new vision for Downtown.

Committed to setting a new standard in business citizenship, on May 13, Keller Williams Realty Champaign Market Center team will devote the day to rehab local Restoration Urban Ministries for RED Day. RED Day, short for "Renew, Energize and Donate," was created by Keller Williams Realty Inc. to give back to its communities across the United States and Canada. Each Keller Williams Realty office has picked a one day civic project with the goal of showing that one day can make a difference to a community. Locally, the Champaign Market center has chosen to volunteer with Urban Restoration Ministries.

Twin Cities Twosome Run/Walk

The 19th annual Twin Cities Twosome run/walk to support local charities takes place Saturday, May 15th at Crystal Lake Park in Urbana, beginning at 9:00 a.m.
Human Kinetics coordinates the event, with all race proceeds benefiting Crisis Nursery Programs and Services, the Transitional Initiatives and Men's Emergency Services (T.I.M.E.S.) Center and A Woman's Fund.  Over its 19-year history, the Twin Cities Twosome has raised more than $90,000 for these charities.

Armed Forces Day

Come help the Armed Forces of America Motorcycle Club, Illinois Chapter on May 15th and enjoy a Poker Run to Support The American Legion Charity, "Gifts to Yank who Gave" and Ride or Drive. Drive out from American Legion Post 71 at 107 North Broadway in Urbana at 2:00 pm (Sign up at 1:00 pm). $10 a hand/$5 per extra hand. Afterward, head to the Rose Bowl Tavern for "One 2 Many" & "Renegade", door prizes, 50/50 drawing and free BBQ at the end of the poker run.
