Urbana Sculpture Project: Call for Art!

Engaging citizens in lifelong involvement in the arts!
 
Urbana Sculpture Project: Call for Art!The City of Urbana is seeking submittals of images of original, pre-existing sculptural works to be considered for the installation and exhibition in the Iron Post Courtyard on Elm Street, and in the Philo Road Business Corridor in Urbana. Up to four, free-standing sculptural works of art will be selected for a two year installation period.  The selected locations are open air settings with high visibility.This Call for Art is a project of the City of Urbana Public Arts Program.  A goal of the Program is to beautify and improve the city streetscape while enriching the lives of Urbana residents and visitors. Selected artists will received a two year rental payment and an installation and removal stipend for each sculpture.

"On The Road To Normal:  Transport, City Building, and Food Systems in a New Era"
 
Carmody is a devoted urbanist with special interest in regenerating depressed local economies. Educated as a tavern keeper, he understands the needs of independent business owners and the importance of conviviality in successful placemaking. Consultant to more than 30 community development programs, he frequently presents at national economic development conferences. Part city planner, part brewmeister, he was the highly acclaimed Executive Director of the Development Association of Rock Island for 17 years, while founding the Rock Island Brewing Company/ RibCo, and building his pub collection to include four other breweries. He served as the President of the Ft. Wayne Downtown Improvement District before heading the Detroit Eastern Market, the largest historic public market district in the country. In operation since 1891, it draws 40,000 each Saturday.
