 Urbana-Champaign Big Broadband Proposal
The Champaign-Urbana Cable Television and Telecommunications Commission's Broadband Access Committee is hosting a public forum to discuss the Urbana-Champaign Big Broadband (UC2B) proposal.  The forum will present the public with an overview of the proposals and provide the opportunity to ask questions and make comments.

The UC2B proposal seeks a total of $28.3 million dollars to improve broadband/Internet service and bolster public computing resources in our community.  If the grant is approved, Federal, State, and local dollars will be used to provide low-cost Internet services to underserved neighborhoods, network essential community agencies, support 46 public computing centers, and create dozens of new jobs in our community.

Guitar From Scratch Class

A great refresher or beginner course!

Guitar From ScratchThis will be a group class for people who are just learning to play the guitar or have no experience playing the guitar. Also, this is a great refresher course if you played guitar years ago and you want to get started again.

Learn basic guitar skills including right-hand and left-hand techniques, strumming styles, tuning your guitar, and a lot of chords. You should come away from this class with a better understanding of playing the guitar and the desire to keep playing your guitar.

Please contact us if you need a guitar as a limited number of guitars are available during the six-week class period for an additional fee. Also, we will be using picks for the class and we will not be doing any finger-picking. Class will be taught by local guitar players Rob Krumm (four sessions) and Randy Cordle (two sessions).

Urbana's Market at the Square

Corner of Illinois & Vine

Market at the Square

Here's a sampling of what we're looking at in terms of what'll be available at the Market this weekend:

apples, peaches (final week), sweet corn, fennel, fresh herbs, leeks, onions, potatoes, heirloom tomatoes, chard, cabbages (including Napa - my fave), lettuces and salad mixes, green beans, okra, eggplant, hot & sweet peppers, broccoli, squashes - also, locally-raised meat and eggs, award-winning goat cheese, honey, and much more.

As we begin the Fall produce season and start the home stretch (there are 7 Markets left before we close up shop for the year), I'd like to invite all our regular patrons to celebrate the Market and bring a friend along this weekend - especially if that friend has never attended the Market before, or rarely attends. The Market is a truly unique experience in Urbana-Champaign that appeals on so many levels - the gustatory and the social chief among them. Your friends deserve to discover what they're missing.

So, go on - bring someone! We'll see you out there!
