It is with great pride and excitement as your new Dean, I share with you the latest college news. In this month's E-newsletter, you'll see that the College is honoring your hard work and dedication with our Engineers Week celebration Feb, 20-24. Engineers Week is a time for us to recognize the contributions we make to society and to reflect on how we can be innovators to improve our future. At Drexel, we strive to find the answers to the problems of tomorrow. We're known for being an institution that exemplifies leadership in practical research and that's building a better tomorrow. During the Engineers Week activities, I look forward to meeting with you on campus and aiming for new marks of success we can reach together.

Drexel to Celebrate National Engineers Week 
|
Drexel will host its 2012 National Engineers Week celebration Feb. 20-24. This nationally recognized celebration raises public awareness of engineers' indispensable contributions to all aspects of life. Drexel Engineering will hold a variety of events during the week to promote recognition among parents, teachers and students of the significance of a technical education in an effort to motivate youth to pursue engineering and technology careers. Dr. Joseph Martin Named Delaware County's Engineer of the Year
| Dr. Joseph Martin (CAEE) was named Engineer of the Year by the Delaware County Chapter of the Pennsylvania Society of Professional Engineers (PSPE). Dr. Martin, a professor in CAEE for the past 29 years, has served on the Haverford Township Environmental Advisory Board, the Boy Scouts Troop 463 and he is serving his third term on the Haverford Township School Board. Dr. Martin will be honored at an Engineers Week banquet hosted by PSPE Feb. 16. Read more.

Drexel Lab Releases Software to Discern and Disguise Authorship
| A set of new software programs, developed by Drexel Computer Scientists, could soon help protect the speech of the disenfranchised and ensure the voice of the whistle-blower, all by confirming or contorting one's writing style. JStylo and Anonymouth are a set of competing programs designed, respectively, to divine the authorship of a disputed text and help authors to remain anonymous. The open-source software, whose genesis is the Drexel College of Engineering's Privacy, Security and Automation Lab, was recently released -in its first version- at the Chaos Communication Congress. Drexel to Host Philly Materials Science and Engineering Day
| For the second year, Drexel University will play host to "Philly Materials Science and Engineering Day," in collaboration with the University of Pennsylvania's Department of Materials Science and Engineering. The free, public event will feature a variety of exhibits and participatory demonstrations. The theme of the day is based on MAKING STUFF with David Pogue, a four-part NOVA documentary about materials. Read more.

Drexel Leads Effort in First-Ever Digital Job Fair During MLK Day of Service
| Philadelphia's 17th Annual MLK Day of Service, featured a first-ever on-site and Internet-based virtual job fair in an effort to empower Philadelphia residents economically Jan. 16. Drexel University led the Freedom Rings Partnership in hosting a digital job fair at the same location as the onsite job fair at Girard College, located at 21st Street and Girard Avenue, which was already capped at 600 attendees.
