Congratulations to the Class of 2011. You have a great journey ahead of you. You're now ready to start the next chapter in your lives. Drexel has prepared you for starting careers in the field of engineering. You'll be solving the problems of tomorrow. As you take on the grand challenges of engineering and seek solutions for worldly issues, remember that Drexel is home to you. Drexel is your backyard for innovation, research, discovery, and a place for your questions. You have the support of the Drexel community in your new endeavors while you challenge the problems facing society. We're proud to have you as alums of this University and we look forward to you leading the future. We wish you all the best as you engineer new frontiers. Hats off to the Class of 2011.

Alumnus Chris Ferguson to Command Last Space Shuttle

Drexel  mechanical engineering alumnus Christopher Ferguson '84 will command the space shuttle Atlantis, the final flight of the shuttle program, STS-135. Ferguson will lead the 12-day mission to the International Space Station. The launch is currently targeted for July 8. The Space shuttle mission to the International Space Station will deliver the Raffaello multi-purpose logistics module filled with supplies and spare parts to sustain station operations once the shuttles are retired. Drexel will be celebrating the launch with a live viewing in the Bossone Lobby. Details are to come for the launch event.  



CoE Congratulates Class of 2011

Commencement 2011CoE held its 124th Commencement ceremony on June 10. Family, friends, CoE faculty and professional staff, Drexel's board members and President John Fry gathered in the Daskalakis Athletic Center to celebrate the graduating students from CoE. The Commencement address was delivered by Paul E. Gray, Sc.D., president emeritus of MIT and professor emeritus of the department of electrical engineering and computer science. Dr. Steve May to Lead MSE Team in Development of Electronic Devices

Dr. Steven May (PI) will lead a research team that includes Drs. James Rondinelli, Jonathan Spanier and Mitra Taheri from the department of  Materials Science and Engineering in a $2.2 million grant project from the Office of Naval Research to develop new electronic devices. The group's research is aimed at developing a new type of transistor, or a universal on/off switch used by many of today's electronic devices such as smart phones and laptops. The team is joined by Professor Andrew Rappe of Penn's Chemistry Department. Drexel will receive $1.75 million of the funding for the four-year project, which began this summer. Read more.       
 


CoE Hosts 7th Annual Golf Tournament

Golf Outing 2011Alumni, industry partners, faculty and professional staff gathered at the Huntingdon Valley Country Club June 27 to take part in CoE's 7th Annual Golf Tournament. The golf tournament raised money for CoE student programs and scholarships. The college would like to extend a special thanks to all of our participants, donors and sponsors. 2011 Senior Design Competition


CoE's graduating seniors were put to the test during the 2011 Senior Design Competition, June 2. Eight teams competed for the first place grand prize of $2,000. First place was awarded to CAEE's "The Structural and Mechanical Design and Building Systems Integration of a Contemporary Art Museum in San Francisco, CA" project.  All graduating CoE students are required to complete a Senior Design project, teaching students the engineering design process from conception to production.
