Another rewarding year has come to an end for CoE. Our faculty and staff have remained committed to our tradition of excellence by preparing our students to become responsible global citizens and leaders. CoE is also excited to welcome back alumnus and astronaut Chris Ferguson. We congratulate Chris on his second successful mission to space. The Drexel community looks forward to hearing his first-hand experience of the STS-126 mission during our upcoming Engineers Week, February 16-20.  We look forward to another exciting year ahead.  Best wishes for the holiday season and a prosperous new year!

Commander Christopher Ferguson Lands Safely After Space Mission

Mission STS-126 Commander and 2009 Engineer of the Year Chris Ferguson '84 (MEM) piloted space shuttle Endeavour to a perfect landing on November 30.
Mr. Ferguson worked with six crew members on a 15-day space mission to deliver equipment to the International Space Station that will enable larger crews to reside aboard the complex.

Dr. Ken Lau Receives NSF CAREER AWARD

Ken Lau
Dr. Ken Lau, Assistant Professor, (CBE), received an NSF CAREER Award for his proposal titled, "Engineering and Integration of Polymer Electronic Materials for Alternative Energies." Dr. Lau's project will bring a new paradigm to polymer thin film processing and greater solar energy awareness and adoption.This 4-year award carries $400,000 funding.



Dr. Alisa Morss-Clyne Receives NSF CAREER Award

Alisa Morss Clyne
Dr. Alisa Morss-Clyne, Assistant Professor, (MEM), received an NSF-CAREER Award that carries $400,000 in funding over the next 4 years. The research objective of the project is to use glucose-induced alterations in endothelial cells and basement membrane to investigate integrated biochemical (growth factor) and biomechanical (shear stress) interactions within the endothelial cell. In total, 21 of our faculty members have received CAREER Awards.



Drexel Green Toy Drive to Donate Toys to Community Children

CoE Gift Wrapping
Drexel University's 12th Annual Holiday Toy Drive is bringing holiday cheer to children in the community. CoE faculty and staff donated toys and participated in the university eco-friendly toy-wrapping event. The toy drive is expected to be one of the largest, with more than 60 organizations donating, gift wrapping and distributing gifts. For more information on the toy drive, please click here.



Dr. Donald Coughanowr Honored by the American Institute of Chemical Engineers

Coughanowr
Dr. Donald Coughanowr, former department head of CBE (1967-1988), was honored by the American Institute of Chemical Engineers for his contribution to the chemical engineering profession. The Institute recognized Dr. Coughanowr for being one of 30 authors who published ground-breaking chemical engineering books. Dr. Coughanowr wrote the most popular undergraduate text book on process control. For more information on Dr. Donald Coughanowr, please click here.
