ASME Chapter Races in Philly's Red Bull Soap Box Derby

Drexel's chapter of American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) competed with more than 40 teams to win a place in soap box history at Philadelphia's Red Bull Soap Box Derby on September 6. Raymond Brown '11 (MEM), Jonathan Mahler '09 (MEM), Chris Muenker '11 (MEM) and Pat Sweeney '11 (MEM) raced a Dragon-shaped vehicle designed by ASME members. Despite torrential downpours and other teams crashing into haystacks, disqualifying them before reaching the end, Drexel's Dragon Force still raced down Manayunk's 1,785 ft. course placing at 15th in the rankings. The event was open to the public and admission was free. For more information on Drexel's ASME chapter in the soap box derby, please click here.

Student Organizations Host Engineering Field Day

To take advantage of the final days of summer, CoE, ASME, ASHRAE, BMES, IEEE and SWE hosted an Engineering Field Day in the Korman Quad on August 20. Students enjoyed carnival games including a dunk tank, a sponge race, hoola-hoops and a football throw. Prizes were awarded to the top competitors in each game. A bake sale, free water ice and music helped round out the afternoon. The college would like to extend a special thanks to all of the participants and the student organizations.
