DxDempsey Participates in the South Side Revitalization Plan
A Vision for the Cedar Avenue Gateway |
The United Neighborhood Centers of Northeastern Pennsylvania recently received a $250,000 "Elm Street Program" grant to help fund the South Side Revitalization Plan. The Elm Street Program was created to bolster older historic neighborhoods located within walking distance from revitalized Main Streets. Along with the physical changes they make to the properties, these grants also help create a positive image for the community.
Cedar Avenue Gateway | Using part of the funding, the UNC is implementing an initiative known as the Design Challenge Grant. The program reimburses residents and business owners for improvement work to the exterior of their buildings at an amount up to 50 percent of the total cost.
Cedar Avenue | This is where we come in. DxDempsey staff member, Mike Muller, was approached by the UNC's design committee and asked to be a liaison between the committee and twelve property owners who were in need of assistance.
A Vision for Cedar Avenue | Using the guidelines set up by the design committee, Mike has been educating residents in various aspects of the program. Mike has been meeting with South Side residents and helping them determine the scope of their individual projects. To date, he has assisted in paint, canopy, signage and lighting selection.
