 Art21 kicked off 2012 with much excitement by announcing the forthcoming new season of Art in the Twenty-First Century, premiering in April on PBS. Season Six also marks the tenth anniversary of the Art in the Twenty-First Century series on PBS, profiling 100 artists to date.

New Season of
Art in the Twenty-First Century, the Peabody Award-winning biennial television series, returns to PBS in April for a sixth season, premiering nationally on PBS on Friday, April 13 at 9:00 p.m. (ET).

The new season features artists Marina Abramović, Ai Weiwei, David Altmejd, El Anatsui, assume vivid astro focus, Lynda Benglis, Rackstraw Downes, Glenn Ligon, Robert Mangold, Catherine Opie, Mary Reid Kelley, Sarah Sze, and Tabaimo across four episodes.

Visit the Art21 website to watch the season trailer and exclusive previews of artist segments. Additional previews and resources will be added weekly leading into the broadcast premiere.

Art21 Access '12
Access '12 is a global campaign providing access to contemporary art and artists through hundreds of free public screenings and events celebrating the premiere of Season Six of Art in the Twenty-First Century.

Join Art21 Access '12 to broaden and inspire a diverse exchange of ideas and perspectives. Art21 invites you to host a free Access '12 screening in April 2012 or beyond.

Art21 will provide you free materials for your events, including DVD screeners, postcards, promotional materials, and more.

Year four of Art21 Educators will kick-off July 2012. Information about the coming year--including an online application--will be posted on Art21.org in the coming weeks.

Art21 at NAEA 2012 in New York City, March 2-4: Conference-wide TASK Party with Oliver Herring, keynote and movement workshop with Janine Antoni, off-site workshop at the Museum of Art and Design, and an opportunity to hear from Art21 Educator alum and current participants in conversation with Lois Hetland. Filmed in 2006 at Industria Studios, New York, photographer Laurie Simmons directs scenes for her first film, "The Music of Regret," starring Meryl Streep. A longtime friend of Simmons and married to a sculptor herself, Streep conveys the difficulties and advantages of leaving a solitary studio practice to work with dozens of crew and collaborators on a motion picture.

What makes an image funny? In this film, artist Mariah Robertson works with Bill Ferro--a male nude model she met online--taking pictures of him in her Greenpoint studio, and later, rehearsing a Martha Graham-inspired dance routine in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.

Art21 is proud to once again serve as the Creative Programming Partner at the VIP Art Fair 2.0, the second edition of the art fair that takes place exclusively online. Work from over 2,000 artists through 115 galleries will be on view during the event.

Art21 will present a selection of films during the fair, including exclusive previews of the artists featured in the forthcoming Season Six of Art in the Twenty-First Century.
