New York Close Up--Art21's new documentary film series devoted to artists in the first decade of their professional career, living and working in New York City--completed its premiere month in June, premiering ten films to start off the series.

"I expect that the earlier films with an artist will telegraph a kind of mutual nervousness (which is only natural) while later films may become more strange, audacious, or even less about the featured artist and more about their friends and environment," said series co-creator and Art21 associate curator Wesley Miller in a recent interview with BOMB Magazine.

Catch up with the first ten films from the series below, and keep an eye on the New York Close Up website in the coming weeks as the series returns with brand new films.

New York Close Up is supported, in part, by public funds from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the City Council. Additional support provided by The 1896 Studios & Stages.
