Research vendor salary survey: Earning more, not necessarily happier

The July 2010 issue of Quirk's featured a report on our second-annual salary survey of client-side researchers. While that group makes up the bulk of our readership, we also have a substantial base of subscribers on the vendor side. As the two groups are so inextricably linked, we felt the time was right to get the providers of research products and services in on the fun.

Online market research is becoming more and more prevalent as Internet-facing companies query Web site visitors about what they want and need. The two most commonly used methods of researching users of Web sites - online panels and site intercepts - differ in two major ways.

Meetings are a dreaded - but necessary - part of any researcher's work life. Whether due to lack of interest, lack of invitation or a bad taste leftover from unproductive past meetings, many who are charged with leading a company planning effort often face the problem that other employees who should be present aren't.

The launch of the iPad was met with seemingly equal parts enthusiasm and skepticism - it's trendy, but is it worth the high price tag? Nearly four months after its public release, analysts are beginning to see how the iPad will impact the portable electronic device market, consumer attitudes on tablets and brand engagement.
