CALLS FOR ARTISTS / ARTS OPPORTUNITES

ART PROPOSALS WANTED FOR 21 BOXES PROJECT 

 

The City of Ithaca Public Art Commission (PAC) is currently inviting artists to apply to participate in a public art project to beautify 21 large electrical boxes in the City of Ithaca. They will select 21 artists to collaborate with PAC to transform these plain, utilitarian boxes into beautiful inspiring works of public art.


Public Art Commission members will help selected artists with the implementation of these murals. PAC will prime boxes and artists will be given a stipend of $100 in addition to a $25 credit for supplies at participating art supply and hardware stores.

Artists notified (may change depending on volume of proposals received and pending successful funding.)
June 14 Launch Date: Informational session and celebration of winners.

Artists may move ahead with painting their selected electrical box

17th MINI PRINT INTERNATIONAL EXHIBITION  

 

The 17th Mini Print International is a juried exhibition of prints no larger than 4"x4". A maximum of three(3) original prints in any traditional or contemporary graphic process, including computer generated prints, will be accepted. Photographs are not admitted unless they are computer manipulated

Opening Reception: September 7, 2012, 5-8pm EST

MACRO/MICRO: PHOTOGRAPHIC EXTREMES

 

Darkroom Gallery in Essex Junction, VT seeks entries for this exhibit is about two photographic extremes, regardless of what you call them: Micro Photography (AKA Macro Photography) and Macrophotography (AKA Wide Angle Photography) we want to see your best work using these photographic tools.

All selected entries are exhibited in our gallery and included in a full color exhibit catalog. Juror's Choice receives a 20x35" vinyl exhibit banner featuring their image. People's Choice gains free entry into a future exhibit. We offer free matting and framing of accepted entries for the duration of each of our exhibition, subject to standard sizes.

This spring, the Community Arts Partnership of Tompkins County is organizing "Spring Writes," the 2012 Finger Lakes Literary Festival. Each year, CAP offers a full slate of professional development workshops for individuals, organizations, and artists of all disciplines. Registration is now open for our 2012 offerings. Unless otherwise noted, each workshop is $20, or $15 for CAP supporters.

The Art of the Sale - Wednesday, May 2, 6:00 to 8:00pm    Bettsie Park, co-owner of "15 Steps"
CAP LogoThe ability to talk to people about your work in a way that promotes a sale is a skill that can be taught, and with practice, a skill that will change your bottom line. Bettsie will help you build your own "selling tool box" filled with the strategies and personal tips she has accrued in over 35 years of selling. Bettsie has been co-owner of 15 STEPS for 30 years and before that, was a practicing fiber artist, selling her work to galleries across the US. This workshop will cover: All of the many steps to take before you hit the selling floor; Understanding the seven steps of the sale & how these steps build on one another; How to sell your work, when the customer comes to you; There will be plenty of time for answering your questions.


Presenting Yourself:
The Artist Statement & Bio - Thursday, June 14th, 6:00 to 8:00pm 
Carrie Chalmers, photographer, 2009 NYFA "MARK" artist, NYFA trained consultant.

The artist statement is a brief description of your work and practice that provides information about your influences and ideas. The bio summarizes your artist resume in narrative form. A well-written statement and bio are essential for your website, portfolio, and for presentations of your work to galleries, grant panels, and your audience. In this workshop Carrie will guide you through the steps needed to create simple, precise, and effective statements and bios. She will also talk about one-on-one consultations offered in August and September and what you could expect to accomplish during the consultation's individualized review. (See description below.) The Arts Funding World - Tuesday, July 24, 6:00 to 8:00pm
Robin Schwartz, CAP Program Director

In this class, Robin will talk about the current climate of grant funding, an overview of the grant funding world, grant prospecting and research, preparing materials and resources for grant writing, (Note: It is recommended that any artists applying for grants also take advantage of CAP's "Presenting Yourself" workshop.)
