CALL TO ARTISTS
GlassFest FireArts Exhibit

The ARTS Council of the Southern Finger Lakes (The ARTS Council) announces a call to artists for GlassFest 2012, a "FireArts" exhibit of fire and glass related art. The artwork submitted must be created with FIRE. The exhibit will be on view in The Spotlight Gallery at The ARTS Council from Friday, May 25 - Friday, July 20.

Interested artists may send up to three (3) images for consideration to Amy Ruza, at infoarts@eArts.org, no later than 5pm Monday, April 23.  
There is no fee to enter.

All artists will be notified by email no later than Monday, April 30. Accepted artwork must be ready for installation, and delivered to The ARTS Council no later than 5pm Monday, May 21.

ART IN THE HEART OF THE CITY

Now in its 12th year, Art in the Heart of the City brings the creativity of local as well as national artists to Ithaca's Downtown through an annual exhibit of outdoor art.

ARTISTS WANTED FOR M&T BANK CLOTHESLINE FESTIVAL

Artists from across New York state are invited to apply for spaces at the M&T Bank Clothesline Festival, a juried fine art and crafts festival held on the grounds of the Memorial Art Gallery.

The application deadline is Friday, March 23, with space assignments mailed Monday, June 11.

John Lyon Paul shows a selection from his ongoing series, Studies.  The paintings are painted with ink on the reverse side of mylar or glass. The results are intimate, dynamic and luminescent.    

Spring Writes Spring Writes 2012 - May 4th through 6th

This spring, the Community Arts Partnership of Tompkins County is organizing "Spring Writes," the 2012 Finger Lakes Literary Festival. Events are occurring all over town at locations like the Tompkins County Public Library, Buffalo Street Books, Finger Lakes Wine Center, the Friends of the Library Book Sale,  and more!

The Art of the Sale - Wednesday, May 2, 6:00 to 8:00pm    Bettsie Park, co-owner of "15 Steps"
CAP LogoThe ability to talk to people about your work in a way that promotes a sale is a skill that can be taught, and with practice, a skill that will change your bottom line. Bettsie will help you build your own "selling tool box" filled with the strategies and personal tips she has accrued in over 35 years of selling. Bettsie has been co-owner of 15 STEPS for 30 years and before that, was a practicing fiber artist, selling her work to galleries across the US. This workshop will cover: All of the many steps to take before you hit the selling floor; Understanding the seven steps of the sale & how these steps build on one another; How to sell your work, when the customer comes to you; There will be plenty of time for answering your questions.


Presenting Yourself:
The Artist Statement & Bio - Thursday, June 14th, 6:00 to 8:00pm 
Carrie Chalmers, photographer, 2009 NYFA "MARK" artist, NYFA trained consultant.

The artist statement is a brief description of your work and practice that provides information about your influences and ideas. The bio summarizes your artist resume in narrative form. A well-written statement and bio are essential for your website, portfolio, and for presentations of your work to galleries, grant panels, and your audience. In this workshop Carrie will guide you through the steps needed to create simple, precise, and effective statements and bios. She will also talk about one-on-one consultations offered in August and September and what you could expect to accomplish during the consultation's individualized review. (See description below.) The Arts Funding World - Tuesday, July 24, 6:00 to 8:00pm
Robin Schwartz, CAP Program Director

In this class, Robin will talk about the current climate of grant funding, an overview of the grant funding world, grant prospecting and research, preparing materials and resources for grant writing, (Note: It is recommended that any artists applying for grants also take advantage of CAP's "Presenting Yourself" workshop.)
