Greetings!

Trails! Grants! Workshops! October is filled with great opportunities for artists and those who appreciate them - just check out the "In This Issue" menu to see all that's happening.

Here at CAP, I'm happy to say that we have a lot to celebrate on our upcoming 20th birthday:
  • In the past year, CAP's total grant distribution since our founding has surpassed the $2 million mark!
  • Despite cuts at the State level, all of our usual grant programs are returning for 2011 (applications are in, with ONE more deadline coming up - see below).
  • The new IthacaEvents.com is getting rave reviews and LOTS of new users!
  • The Summer Artists's Market at the Ithaca Farmers Market has grown into a huge success - just this year, the 63 area artists on display were able to sell or commission more than $60,000 in art in a single afternoon.
  • Our move to Center Ithaca in 2009 has made us a highly visible part of downtown life in Ithaca, and we've seen a dramatic increase in visits from artists from every corner of the county.
  • The Member Artist Registry at ArtsPartner.org is approaching 80 profiles ...but we need more!
With a minimum annual donation of just $25, artist membership in CAP is an affordable way to not only support all the services and programs of Tompkins County's Arts Council, but also enjoy member benefits like a profile on the Artist Registry and discounted rates on the professional development workshops that Robin has been coordinating for the last two years.

Please help us celebrate CAP's 20th and look forward to our next 20 by becoming a partner-in-the-arts today by either clicking the "donate" button in this e-mail, visiting the Become a Member page of our website, or by filling out a Pledge Card and delivering a donation to the CAP offices inside Center Ithaca.

With your help, CAP can continue to promote an increased access to, enjoyment of, participation in, and funding for the arts as an integral and vibrant component in the every day life of all the diverse communities that make up Tompkins County.

Cheers,

Brett Bossard, Executive Director

Poet Laureate Nominations DUE NOVEMBER 1st!

CAP is currently seeking nominations for the 2011 Tompkins County Poet Laureate. The title of "Poet Laureate" is a time-honored tradition. In 1668, England officially established the post as a royal office. In 1937, the US created the position as a national one.

The position of Tompkins County Poet Laureate was established by the County Legislature in 2001 to honor local outstanding poets, integrate poetry into the community, enrich the education of our young people, and enhance the County's position as a cultural center. Given our literary pedigree, it's no surprise that Tompkins was one of the first counties in the nation to have such an official post!

Since its establishment, the selection and announcement of the Tompkins County Poet Laureate has been a process administered by CAP, which solicits nominations and organizes the selection panel that considers the appointment. Appointments to the position are for one-year terms, but precedent allows for one additional consecutive one-year term, based on the availability of the poet.

To learn more or to nominate a poet (or yourself!) visit the Poet Laureate Page at ArtsPartner.org
